I posted this in my introduction thread, but might as well put it on here.

I had been smoking for 21 years. 2.5 Years ago I bought an eGo-T type e-cig, but it didn't quite work for me: not consistent enough, not enough vape in general and for some mystical reason VG was making me cough with that system, but I did get a good throat hit when it did work correctly. Still, it was no more than a tool to keep me from going mad at work and during long car drives (I stopped smoking in the car when I changed cars 2 years ago.)

Fast forward to 3.5 weeks ago, I bought an aspire tank and some fresh juice for my eGo kit. I went down from 21+ cigs a day to less than 10.

2 days later I bought a VV eGo kit and gave my old eGo batteries to my GF so all she needed was a 10$ tank and some juice. She went from 6 cigarettes a day down to 3 the same day.

10 days after that I stopped smoking completely. The feeling of being able to do things without needing a "breather" (10 minute breaks that included a cigarette) gave me the will to put the morning cigarette down without lighting it up.

I've been smoke free all that time with one very small exception: one day my GF wanted a cigarette, so I took 2 puffs off of hers because I didn't want to taste it while kissing her. I wasn't tempted to take more as vaping tastes so much better.

I still cough up some phlegm a few times a day, but nothing like before and I'm not almost choking on it anymore. I can do activities without being out of breath and I actually need a break because the muscles hurt, not because I'm out of breath of my heart feels like it's going to pop out of my chest. I can smell some things I haven't smelled in years and boy was I glad I wasn't sitting next to that guy who probably rolled in rotting garlic just before he got on the plane (for some reason I couldn't get away from him on the way to the baggage claim).

I do have some cravings for a real cigarette every now and then, but vaping makes that go away in minutes. I still have that (now stale) pack with 7 cigarettes left in it in the fridge and I was really tempted to have one earlier. I'm keeping it mostly because I don't want to spend 10$ on a pack I might have no more than 2 out of. I read in some thread that the 3's are the hard part: 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months... it's been 3 weeks. Perhaps a new juice flavor would help but I'm holding on and I definitely don't want to start again.

As odd as it sounds, from my multiple attempts at stopping over the years (I once stopped 2.5 years. How STUPID am I ?), I can say it's completely true. I'm guessing that after a few days, then weeks, you let your guard down a bit more, and that's when your brain kicks in and tries to trick you into smoking again. Then 3 months... you think you're out of danger... you think you can, "just one"... but you're not.

I sincerely believe vaping is the best way to circumvent that.

Thanks guys. I'm sort of wondering how much better it can get than just not coughing, not huffing and not stinking anymore. Then again, I still have to get on the bicycle. Every year I'd cough up a lung and almost my stomach on the first 3 rides of the summer, but I do ride like a madman. Last summer was my thirs year back on the bike and I passed quite a few pro wannabe's. Can't wait to see how fast they'll disappear behind me this summer.

mistike: this is the first time in all my smoking years that I go more than a day without a cig and the very first time by choice. I feel the difference so much I'm convinced I won't go back to smoking. I do have to admit that during this 3rd week the temptation is very present for one... just one. Fortunately I found a way to steep my cigarette flavored juice in record time. I hope it won't be much harder in the 3rd month, thought...

Congrats to you. Sounds like you are doing great. I did both for a good while and just got so cigarettes tasted nasty. I hope I never forget how bad that last one did taste. Good luck to you and have fun with it. Maybe you can get your GF interested in vaping. Would be fun to do together. Have fun with it and happy vaping. :)

Thanks Rat2chat2. I did have some temptation yesterday to light up an analog, but mass vaping made that go away.

My GF did start vaping and cut down dramatically. I guess it could still take her a while to get the "technique" right and stop using analogs completely. I did have a 2 year head start by practicing on the eGo-T, so letting go of analogs was fairly easy.

Hang in there. The cravings do lesson. I used to get a few days here and there and sometimes days back to back cravings. I really wanted to quit and I have stuck with it. Now the cravings don't last as long and don't happen very often at all.

I find that I grieve the cigarettes more then crave them when those craving hit. Cigarettes are the past and vaping is the present.:)

Consider trying WTA liquid which will provide you with those extra alkaloids in the nicotine profile. Those extra alkaloids will give you the calming effect or 'buzz' that cigarettes give you and make the craving diminish even more.

Aromaejuice and Wholecig both sell WTA juice.

Thanks all. I'm not coughing anymore and even though I sometimes breathe heavy when I move like crazy, I'm not out of breath and breathe normally almost instantly when I stop. I gotta get the bicycle back in order and go p**s off those expensive racer owners like I did many years ago I was already hot on their trails at the end of the summer the last few years, but OOOoooo, they're gonna get it this year!
