When initially charging 14500 protected lithium batteries, is an extended charge cycle recommended, similar to the requirement to initially charge an 801 battery for 8 hours?

Not to my knowledge. I charged mine until I noticed the light green - I wasn't real attentive. I did, however, make sure I put it back on to charge looooooong before it needed to be. I figured it wouldn't hurt and that was what I was told to do with other batteries. I have heard that it may take a few times charging to reach full capacity. My knowledge is limited, but I believe that the led is programmed to turn green when the voltage hits 4.2 and the charger quits charging at the same time, so anytime that the led is green, the battery is not charging but showing the charger a full charge - just my understanding, others here are much more knowledgeable but I am available at this moment.

Thanks. I still haven't figured out the reasoning behind the initial 8 hour charge for 801 batteries.

So far I've fired up a single AA/801 version of the Nicostick. What a difference!

I also have a triple AA 3.7v box ready to go and now I'm working on finishing up single AA version that uses a ½" copper pipe as the body. Let me tell you, building this one is no fun at all.
