Hi All,

Another convert here. After 25 years of heavy-ish smoking (15-20 a day), and failing, despite all good intentions to quit I feel like I've joined a pretty exclusive club. The club of Vapers. It's rather a nice feeling, I must say. 16 days in and, barring one or two moments, haven't felt an overwhelming compulsion to light up. Absolutely remarkable.

I came across vaping through a friend, and thereafter visited a local shop to invest in some gear and give it a go, and have so far been going strong on Protanks of various iterations, coupled with the EVOD batteries. That's where I'm at, at the moment….but me being me, once I find something I like I tend to research and immerse in all the information I can gather.

I have read lots and lots on these forums and now understand what a mod is, what regulated and unregulated power devices are and how they work, what 'Kicks' are for, RBA's and batteries. My plan is to upgrade for an even better vaping experience, and whilst I'm fairly confident I understand the principles of Ohms law would still like to read more before I start looking into better setups. I don't understand 'C' ratings, for instance, and have a vague understanding at the moment of coils and wicks.

I'm really curious to know, when you guys were new to this hobby, which direction did you go once you'd accumulated some knowledge?. For example, did you upgrade to a mechanical mod or a regulated?, and RBA or a different bottom coil solution?

If you havent got one a variable volt battery makes your vaping experience much better.

If you can cope with the box shape (i was reluctant but totally changed my mind since I bought this) an MPV2 is a great purchase, huge battery life 2600mah...easy to use, VV and VW so you can just set 8 watt etc and your done.

iTaste MVP V2.0 Carbon Black - Mods £35.00 is a good price from what ive heard and will work with your Protank etc....comes with an Iclear30 duel coil which I find pretty good too.

Started with a Jenty Starter Kit. Went to eGo Twist VV batteries and Kanger Clearomizers. Now I exclusively use REOS Mods with RM2 rebuilable atomizers.
If I could make a suggestion; try several different e-liquid vendors and find some flavors you like before investing too much into mods. Nothing would suck worse than $1000 of Vaping Gear that might just be sitting on a shelf six months from now. Find the juces you like while gathering information on various PV's.

Welcome to ECF - awesome place for Vapers (consider yourself initiated to the club)

I went from the basic ego kits to a regulated Mod, purely as I'm not organized enough for mechanical mods, nor will I ever become organized enough for them. Or dripping, or anything that's not almost fillnplay.

What I will say is there's a wealth of people here that will help you find what you are looking for

:)

Happy vapin'

Edit - Congrats on the progress stinky free - that's a decent effort! :toast:

Thanks very much for the ideas all, and the encouragement. I was full of trepidation prior to grabbing a vaping kit, as so many other attempts to quit the cigs had proved fruitless. I truly am astonished at how much 'fun' if that's the right word can be had vaping. I'm enjoying it more and more every day.

If I may so bold to say, from reading lots (and I mean lots) of forum threads, this is a really great community of vapers. Lots of ideas and sharing of experience. :)

I have obtained, and have been using a twist battery. Works great, but runs out in no time, hence the desire to explore options. The mVP and Zmax look great, so does a Provari. My head says try out one of those. I may need to fight the urge, whilst being very much a new-starter, to go for a mechanical mod….as I do like to tinker.

Incidentally, it's a Protank 3, and a Mini Protank 2 I've been using….very nice (although sometimes - particularly the 3 - they gurgle and make a slight spitting sound).

Protanks will spit from time to time...for me it's usually when I've just filled it.

I use iclear30's now, which are slightly better for me, but still gurgle and spit.

If it's gurgling and spitting I usually take the tank off, blow through (strongly) into a paper towel, make sure the battery is clean, then drag a few times out the top (before putting it back on the battery). It usually fixes it.

There's fun to be had, vaping, but it's frustrating in equal measure at times.

Another lesson learnt. Thanks for the tip.

Juice wise, I haven't been too adventurous as yet….just a couple of tobacco flavours, and a couple of fruit flavours. I've got used to, and really like one of the tobacco one's….although it doesn't much taste like smokes. More of a caramel type flavour with a slight tinge of tobacco-yness. Which is nice. The bottle says 70PG/30VG….is that a typical mix? I do note that there's lots of permutations in terms of the %age of PG/VG. What is the effect of varying the mixture balance?

The spitting sound is good, it's your juice being atomized. The gurgling is bad, tells you that you're pulling too much juice in. I use PT II's and got the AeroTank base for them, no more gurgling and leaking and they make a much improved vape. For about $6 US, a great fix for that tank. I'm pretty sure they work on the PT 3 as well.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on being 16 days cigarette free!

When I was first introduced to vaping, I tried a disposable Blu but it didn't work for me.

Then I found ECF and after a ton of research, I decided on an iTaste VV V3 and iClear 16 tanks (came with my starter kit). I used these for a few weeks along with 24mg juice and was able to quit smoking completely after a 13 year PAD habit.

Since then (presently) I have changed to KangerTech Protank II mini tanks and I am rebuilding my own coils and using cotton for the wick. I have also dropped down to 12MG juice and plan to drop to 6MG in a couple weeks. I have also picked up a second iTaste VV V3 as a backup. I am not a cloud chaser and I honestly am content with what I am using. I do not plan to try another mod or tank as what I have is working for me (if it ain't broke, don't fix it).

Good luck and remember, we are all here for support. Most of us have been where you are at some point and can easily relate!

EDIT: I should also mention that my V3 lasts an entire day on a full charge. I tend to use it frequently throughout the day (I can vape in my office) and use about 3ml of juice a day. As many have recommended to me, backups are always a good idea in case anything goes wrong. I do like that the V3 is passthru and that I can vape while it charges if need be but, that is why I have the second which is always charged and ready to go.

Will definitely give that a go. Just had a peek on Youtube and there was a guy going into some depth about airflow and how that affects vape production. At the price, it's a no brainer. Thanks.

I realised very quickly the benefits of backup batteries. I have three now on rotation, and generally speaking there's one on charge per day. I seem to go through them very quickly. I get through about 3ml a day too - on 18mg, and did wonder if I was overdoing it slightly so it's good to know that's what others get through. It's a revelation being able to vape away at my desk at work, and virtually everywhere else too, although I do feel a little self conscious pulling out my tank and having a vape in a busy public area for some reason.

Any recommendations for Youtube links for re-building coils? Am keen to give that a go once I get some means of checking coil resistance.

I finally stopped at the Vape store I had noticed at lunch one day, where they fixed me up with 2 simple 900 mAh ego batteries with a charger, and two CE4 clearomizers, and a bottle of juice. I thought I had found vaping nirvana. Then I joined ECF and started reading here. After a few months, I added a Vamo mod and a couple of 18650 batteries, and I thought I had found vaping nirvana. Next came a couple of ProTanks, and I was sure I had found vaping nirvana. I added some Kanthal wire and began rebuilding my Protanks with cotton wicks, and knew in my heart I had found vaping nirvana.

I rolled along pretty happy for another few months, then I started reading about Kayfun and Russian RBA's, so I found a Russian and bought it. "This", I said to myself, "is most certainly vaping nirvana." A week later, on a whim, I bought a dripping atomizer and was absolutely sure I had finally reached vaping nirvana, until I started making microcoils, then I no doubt had found vaping nirvana.

I want a Provari now.

I blame ECF.
