Laptops aren't pulling 3 Amps or more out of the battery for many seconds at a time continuously.
Stacking itself isn't bad, the differences between the internal resistances of the cells is what's bad, and this difference is amplified as the current draw of the load increases.

If you could get a perfectly matched set of cells it wouldn't matter, but it would require labor, sorting through all the cells and matching like cells. So it would cost more.
