18650 not always an 18650

I just bought a Lava Tube that came with an ICR 18650. I have had a Rough Stack that also came with Ultra Fire LC 18650s. It came to a point where the one that came with the lava tube needed charging so i went to replace it with one from my rough stack, only to find out that it will not fit. It is about 3mm longer than the one that came with the Lava Tube. Am I wrong to have assumed that 18650 was the battery size and that like a "AA" battery they should all have the same dimensions? I have been mistaken before but i thought battery sizes were a no brainer!

The LC is probably a protected battery and the ICR unprotected. Usually, protected 18650 are 68mm and the unprotected 65mm.

Thanks TTK. That makes a lot of sense. Just sucks that I have two batteries that I can't use.

If you can get the bottom started and get one or two threads in it should be good. I have some longer batterys and thats how I have to use them on my Ltube.
