It's really hard to understand what happened to the battery.

I bought a VAPAGE VMOD XL 6 months ago.
I became actually a bit bored of this mod since it's not VV and working with a very expensive hybrid-bottom feeder.

I haven't used it for a couple of months since I had EGO T VV batteries-cheaper but working great.
Then, several days ago, I wanted to charge my battery CL ICR 18650 2200mAh 3.7V which came with the VAPAGE VMOD XL as a kit.

The charger showed a green led, which definitely meant "Charged." However, when I tried to use my VMOD XL with the battery, it didn't work at all.
Luckily I have another spare battery with the same spec from a Chinese vendor. Replacing the original battery with it, VMOD works flawlessly.

It seems to me that the original unprotected 18650 battery is dead.
My question is: is it common to happen with a unprotected 18650 battery? I mean a sudden death.

I've heard that 18650 battery can last over 500 times charging cycles.
Mine certainly did less than 100 times, but died.

Any ideas? Is that generally a problem of a charger since the battery is obviously unprotected?
