Hey there ecf. I'm a new member and have to get thru these 5 posts because I'm not spam. Lol. But, anyways.. I currently have a panzer black hawk with a patriot rda and recently just got into rebuilding my own coils. I love it. Been vaping for about a year and I think I'm ready to jump into the regulated world. Does anyone out there have any favorites? The dna chip? Or yihi? And what wattage do you recommend since I've already been running between 30-60w unregulated. Also if I use higher wattage like, 80-100 would it be more ideal to use a higher resistance build?? Any and all answers or opinions welcome.. THANKS!

Hello EByrd23. Welcome to ECF. I'm new as well (this is only my 2nd post). I recently was going through a similar debate with myself. I'm still rocking tanks because of their ease of use. But I wanted to get the RDA taste and feel (clouds). I had an MVP V2 which was a nice little workhorse for me for about 2 months. So of course I wanted to get the Aspire Atlantis and no device to use. After doing a lot of research on all the popular regulated devices, I finally settled on the Dovpo DT-50 Box mod. I posted a review here on ECF. The title of the thread is "Dovpo DT-50 VW Review from a novice vaper" (not allowed to post links yet).

I paid about $80 bucks for mine from Vaporider because I wanted to go with a US retailer, but after a bit of a hiccup with USPS (not Vaporider's fault at all), I think in hindsight, I might as well went with a Chinese vendor because they're going for about $60 or less and probably would have received it just as fast. Hope that helps you out! Welcome to ECF and vape on!

I actually bought the atlantis about 3 weeks ago! It's definitely awesome. Lol. But because I went from a kanger pro tank on my ecig battery to the panzer with an rda the taste just isn't there for me in any tank let alone the atlantis. Now, it could also be the juice in it at the moment called smurf vendetta by avail vapors but in my gfs mini protank it tastes way better. I think dripping has ruined tanks for me honestly. And some of my thicker juice like prime g2 Gilligans island or my local shops blends don't burn well in the atlantis. I will look into the dovpo though! I am all over the net researching and seen a few reviews on them. It just seems like there are sooo many regulated choices. I'm also curious about clone devices. Are the chips really that much different? My mech is authentic but I have seen some pretty crappy quality clone mechs. I'm just wondering other than the physical construction of the boxes are the chips going to perform at a lower standard in clone boxes? Sooo many questions. Thanks for your input I appreciate it!

Hi, Ebyrd23. Welcome to ECF. I love my high wattage mod, and it sounds making the switch to a high wattage regulated mod would be a great choice for you. There are a lot of them out there at the moment, and most of the better known ones are pretty great. Do you have a budget range? Would you rather have one battery or two? Is the new temperature thing from Evolv more interesting to you than the ability to run hotter than 40 watts?

As far as your other questions, anything with a genuine YiHi or Evolv chip is going to be an excellent choice, although I probably wouldn't trust my safety to anything else. And usually, you're going to want to build higher resistance just because you can - if you've got 8 or 9 volts you can push through it, you can get a bigger surface area out of a bigger coil, which means more or better vapor. But most of them have a maximum voltage, so if you build too high, you can lock yourself out of the higher power ranges. For example, my single battery device goes up to 60 watts, but has a maximum voltage of 9.5. When I had a 1.75 ohm coil on it, I couldn't go any higher than 51.5 watts, because it wouldn't put out more than 9.5 volts. Now I've got a 1.3 on there, so I can use the full range. Some of the higher powered ones have pretty tight restrictions on that max. The IPV3, for example, won't go over 8.5 volts, so to pull its 150 watt max, you need a coil thats under .48 ohms. The lowest build it will fire is .1.

Wattage is totally going to depend on your build. I like my 24awg, 8 wraps on 1/8', 1.3 ohm tank build at 22.5 watts or so most of the time. On a dual, I'll be more in the 40ish range. Flavor dripping is anywhere from 20 up depending on the airflow I'm feeling at the moment. And for a cloud chasing dripper build, it's more about "how high can you handle it before the vape's too hot or harsh?"

One more thing... you said you can't find the taste you like in a tank, even the atlantis. Get yourself a Lemo. You'll find it there. And then you've got a tank for times when dripping is inconvenient, like driving.

tl;dr: The best one for you depends on budget and the features you want. Generally, yes, higher resistance because it's a better vape. Wattage depends. Buy a Lemo.

I'm also curious about clone devices. Are the chips really that much different?

I missed this in my last post, so I want to expand on it here. Just because the device is regulated doesn't mean you're not stressing your battery. Basically, the way most of these things output higher voltage than the battery provides is by pulling higher current (amps) from the battery to change it to voltage on the other side of the chip. So if you're running 60 watts or so, you're pulling as much current from the battery as if you were using a .25ish ohm coil on a mech. Any time you pull a lot of current from a lithium battery, you're in a situation that COULD be unsafe if you're not using the right battery or don't take sensible precautions.

Because of all that, I don't trust a clone chip for high wattage. Evolv and YiHi both have solid track records building high quality chips. They're proven. I trust them to keep me safe when I'm doing something potentially dangerous near my face. Additionally, because they're really good chip designers, their chips are going to be more efficient than a no-name chip that's built by someone we know nothing about. The DNA 40 is 92% efficient, and the SX350 mini is 93% efficient. A less efficient chip is going to have to lose more energy to the conversion process, which means it's going to have to pull more current from the battery to hit the same wattage.

And finally, I've heard a lot about the lower end units not being able to really hit the numbers they say on the label. With an Evolv or YiHi, I know I'm getting what I set it for.

If you read around on the board, you'll see some people are super happy with their clones and others have had some issues, so take this all with a grain of salt. It's my opinion, but I wanted to give you the reasoning behind it instead of just answering your question with "I wouldn't get a clone." I'll buy a clone of an atty or a mech any day if it's got good reviews, but for high power, I want to know who's behind it, and I want to know their reputation.

Hi Ebyrd.

Personally, I like the nemesis clone with a Dark Horse RDA. It is an amazing pair. Using Dual parallel coils, I am at .8 ohms pushing High voltage.
