I am so obsessed with vaping! This has had such an impact on just my daily life...it's amazing.

Maybe it's weird, but I had gotten in a bit of a funk. I'm pretty much an easy going, very happy person, but the cig habit was really bothering me. On one hand I loved smoking - and yet I also detested it. I hated the smell, hated the way society looked upon it, and, honestly, hated what I was doing to my body. At age 43 (and after having quit for almost a full year at age 40 - and then picking them up again), I was really unhappy with my cig affair....

But vaping has changed all that!! There's a "freedom" inherent in vaping that is very appealing....

2 milestones in the last 48 hours:

1.) Milestone 1: "The Social Vape" - As much as I knew from my first vape how great this was, I was still worried that during a "social" setting (read: Drinking beer/wine over a good dinner with friends) that vaping wouldn't "satisfy" me and I'd be running for some analogs...well, that worry was answered and wow....had a fabulous time out with friends and ate great food and drank very good beer and had fabulous conversation.....and vaped and YES it was very satisfying. Different at first, of course, but did NOT miss my cigs and did NOT feel an urge to get them and actually ENJOYED my vapes with my Sierra Nevada Pale Ales and Black and Tans....Did change flavors though - been vaping a sweet juice during the day but switched over to a tobacco flavor (from LF) after supper. Didn't taste like a cig (and I didn't CARE) but was actually BETTER than a cig with my after supper beer. In fact, I was thrilled that this flavor actually tasted like what tobacco SMELLS like - if that makes any sense? Very good combination. Very impressed!!

2.) Milestone 2: I vaped in public, in a restaurant (non-smoking in my city) - and not ONE person gave me any problems. Of course, I was so engaged in good convo and good beer and good vaping that I wasn't really paying attention to anyone so I really don't know if I got any bad "looks" but no one SAID anything to me at all about it or tried to stop me. I was with 2 non=smokers and another girl friend that just started vaping last week as well so we were both just giddy ;-)

Lesson Learned:

Did learn one lesson - and feel really stupid about it and hope like hell I didn't ruin my batts, but....I was so worried about running out of juice or a batt dying or *something* that I packed my little carrying case with an EXTRA bottle of juice and two EXTRA batts with two cartos (filled before I left) (in addition to the one in my hand, which lasted the whole supper, but just in case..)

And...left them all attached and IN my case. Meaning, carto attached to batt (Smok Tech dual coil XLs). Fit in case just fine all attached so seemed like easy peasy way to have them ready!!!

Um...and then about an hour later, was reaching in purse to get something and realized case was HOT!!! Duh, don't leave them attached and don't pack tightly 'cause buttons must have been pushed for over an hour and had been ON and nic juice wasted and cartos burned and tips burned and juice bottle melted :(

Think my batts will recover? One is on charger now...we'll see. I feel SO STUPID - I am NOT stupid so why did I do that? Aarrghhh!

Thanks for sharing and CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR TWO ACCOMPLISHMENTS. It's always great to hear people really enjoy vaping and quitting an awful habit at the same time.

It's always a good idea to switch batts when you feel that it's loosing a bit of performance. I think your batts should be fine and mistakes do happen. Most of us has made those errors and learned from it. Hoping you continued success and that you'll stay active here.

Maybe you'll upgrade to a mod eventually when your more accustomed to vaping.

Sealed manual batteries? Hopefully they will be OK.

If you are using a fat battery, the Riva 510 SE black kits at Liberty-Flights now have 3-click enable-disable and their loose Riva 510 SE batteries do too (press 20% off upper left front page to shop t the lowered prices)

I use little plastic mod boxes too - most have an on/off switch

but loosening the carto works too!

So what does a mod do for me? I haven't quite "gotten" that yet (only been vaping since Saturday night, lol!) ;-)

Yes, sealed manual batts (Riva 510) and I just ordered them - so...hmmm...wonder if they have the 3 click disable? I didn't get any instructions with them so didn't realize....!!!!

Just making it short but, the benefits of owning a mod is for better performance overall. Some have the ability to change voltages from true 3.7V - 6V by switching batteries. This will give you the ability to increase the heat, TH, vapor, and visa versa. Other mods will be VV that will also allow you to do this without switching batteries. Just match the ohms to the Voltage you set it at. Something like a bottom feeder (REO, VV Army Tank V2, and Hogs mod) will make it less of a fuss since it holds 3 - 6ml of juice in the bottle. Which means you don't have to carry extra batteries and cartomizers with you.

Overall, it's something to think about later on. Some people never upgrade while a majority will at some point. Choose to make that move when they want better performance.

Congrats! Its awkward going out for the first time with something that possibly attracts more attention than you'd like.

Being relatively new, I am not afraid to admit that three days ago I left my tank on my PV in my back pocket. I got caught up in things at work and sat down to do paperwork... needless to say it didn't end well. Juice everywhere, bent the carto beyond repair, Broke the plastic tank, and had to use grippers to get the carto off my PV. To top it off I didn't have a backup carto or an extra pair of jeans!!!!
Don't let that bad experience deter you, you aren't the only one to have made a mistake!

Its still easy for me to make mistakes and I started this journey almost six months ago. In the last week alone I killed my two Riva batteries by hotboxing them without even realizing I was doing it, just typing along on here and all of a sudden they got HOT, HOT, HOT!!! Dead as doornails, two of them... I'm just sick over it, but hopefully lesson learned. I can't wait to get a mod so that I can hopefully never do that again, I can ill afford battery killing. I haven't done the social setting yet, kinda scared that I will want cigarettes badly if I drink a beer. I do great when I'm at home, I have no choice right now, but when I can drive again and am free to do what I choose I pray that I won't falter. I will be on here alot to keep me on the path.

I got my first simple box mod 4 weeks into vaping and now use it the majority of the time. It, along with a LR cartomizer, makes the vaping experience more like an analog experience as far as throat hit, heat of the vapor, and vapor production.

Heyas jlazarus,

Welcome to the ecf! And woot on giving up smoking!

I know how you feel about the whole vaping in public thing. The first week, I was too embarassed to vape around anyone I knew. Didn't want to appear too much the geek (that I actually am anyways :p ). When I finally did vape around friends, the reactions ranged from "huh" (indifference) to "Wow! How cool is that!"

Also, on the whole misfire adventure...

A few days after getting a new tube mod, I had sat it down my desk at work (as I often do with my egos) without even thinking about the fact that the switch on this mod is VERY easy to depress. Came back 5 minutes later and smelled chocolate (the flavor of juice I usually vape), picked up my mod and almost dropped it, the carto was so hot. The black plastic "paper" over the steel carto had actually melted all off of one side. Carto burnt all to hell of course. No damage to the pv though!

Lesson learned here. I always make sure the power is off on my pv's if I'm gonna leave the room or put them in a coat pocket or someplace else they can misfire. So, you're not alone on this one :D

Happy vaping :vapor:

Great post! I felt the same way you did about ciggs... This Love/Hate... that drove me nuts. The mess, the smell, the omg what if I burn something?

I gotta agree it's nerve racking at first to vape in public but in no time it's an awesome conversation starter. I LOVE when a smoker who wants to quit comes up to me and wants to do what I am. It just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, like maybe I helped save someone's life that day.

Welcome aboard to ECF !

P.S.-- Sorry about your batts , hopefully they'll be okay. If not lesson learned right? Some sites also sell button protectors! They're very cheap shouldn't be more then a dollar.

I think I see a mod in my future!

Maybe I will be bold enough to vape at Thanksgiving next week!!

Congrats to you as well, Sandy! Although I won't be vaping at Thanksgiving - one thing to do so in general public - total other thing in front of parents, lol! Smoked for 27 years and never in front of them - they of course KNEW I smoked, but never approved and it was a respect thing ;-)

Do you mean hotboxing them like when you hotbox a cig? That killed your batts? Goodness!

Milestone #3 when some hippy dude sees you vapeing in public and with wide puppydog eyes comes up and asks "HEEEYYY. whats in that!?!"

LOL....I imagine my college kids will all have similar thoughts/questions when they come home for Thanksgiving!! :)

I'm going to start researching them today!!

Glad the PV was still ok - but thanks for headsup! I'm just glad it happened to me and not hubby - I'd rather be the lesson learning one - if his misfired while he was at work or on a business trip, he'd be buying smokes!!

Only a newb yet I totally get what you mean about discussing it - I feel like trying to "convert" everyone I know who smokes (but I don't want to be obnoxious about it, either.....) Still.....;-)
