20 a day smoker

I smoke 20 analogs a day ( either BH or rollups using a thin filter).

I don't want to vape in the house and just want to vape at the back door and have my 20 smoking sessions using an e cig instead.

I'm new to vaping and have disposable cartridges for my ecig look a like.

Which strength cartridge would you recommend? Roughly how many puffs would equal one cigarette?

What I don't want to do is go mental during each session and over do it.

Would 20 pulls on the e cig 20 times a day be excessive? My biggest concern is that I don't want to increase my nicotine addiction but at the same time want to get enough.

Is it true that to equal one analogue ciggy I would have to puff at least double the amount than that of an analogue?

I don't want to buy a dedicated vaping device just yet. Want to try the look a like first.

Would having 20 sessions with 20 puffs per session using a 16mg cartridge be considered excessive?

When I switched over to vaping I was a half pack a day of reds for appx 18 years. I do not think there is a definite formula to equated vape puff vs. analog puff since each analog type delivers different amounts of nicotine. I went with 12mg strength when I switched and would guess that I puffed 4-6 times at 10-15 times per day. I would feel a bit of a headache if I got too much nicotine.

Hope that helps for comparison sake.

Hi again.

20 sessions of 20 puffs on a 16mg cartomiser will NOT WORK. I have done the maths over 10,000 posts on 3 e-cig forums.

(My life has been ruined....)

If you are using a basic cig-a-like, you need the absolute maximum strength you can buy... and some serious resolve (effort, commitment) to stay off the fags. Been there, got the T-Shirt.

I smoked 15 roll-ups a day. I vaped 40 times a day (10 puffs a time) on the "most popular e-cig in the UK" and was not able to stop smoking.

However, when I got a nice eGo battery, I had stopped in under a week, apart from first thing in the morning.

All this doesn't mean you shouldn't try.. :)

What are you going to buy though? (You already have one?....16mg?)

- - -

Please do not worry about increasing your nicotine addiction. It's not going to happen with a cig-a-like. Seriously.

Besides.
First rule of 100% conversion to vaping - find something that delivers enough nicotine to kill your smoking habit dead.
Cut down from there.

I vape the equivalent of about 5 roll-ups a day now.

Have a throw away e cig with a 16mg cartridge.

OK, so now the choice. :)

Either... buy a nice little cig-a-like kit, try it out, see if it's for you with no expectation of quitting, cutting back maybe... of course.

It's either a Nicolite or 10 Motives or Jasper and Jasper (from Morrisons) at a guess. ??

Or... buy a simple eGo e-cigarette (£20 for a good-ish one) with some liquid.

There are a few things that differ between smoking and vaping

1. nicotine absorption with vaping is slower than it is with smoking so you will probably need to try several different nic strengths - smoke is much smaller molecule that absorbs in the lungs much faster than the larger molecule created by vapor that absorbs mainly through the mucous membrane in mouth and nasal passages

2. puffing on an ecig is different from a cigarette - slow, smooth draw (6-8 seconds) works much better than fast strong puffs like on a cigarette - reason for this is to allow the liquid time to wick onto the coil - REMEMBER that there is nothing "burning" in an ecig - also there is no residual order with vaping and the possibility of "2nd hand vapor" causing issues is minimal (unless you are blowing the vapor in someones face from about 15cm)

3. a normal cartomizer holds about 1ml of eliquid (I go through 5-6ml of low nic eliquid a day). If you start getting a burnt taste it is time to switch cartos - a normal cigalike stick battery is good for about 1-2 carto's before needing to be recharged so get several of them so 1 can charge while you are using a different battery (backups, backups, backups)

the little cigalike stick batteries are the least efficient delivery device due to low battery life, lower voltage (seems like most are 3.3 volt instead of 3.7 volt) and higher ohm cartomizers.

nic strength I would recommend would be some 16 or 18 and some 24mg and possibly some 12mg - use the 24 first thing in the day and after key smoke inducing times (meals, coffee, drinking) use the 16mg most of the day for the "I think I need a cigarette" moments, and the 12mg for late evening (starting several hours before bed time - except if out at the bar)

hope this helps you out

congrats, good luck, and welcome to the ECF

My personal feeling suggests a Joyetech Twist or a Vision Spinner. A good topper would be a Kanger T3s. Now, there are some liquids that will crack the polycarbonate tank, but most won't. They use a replaceable head that includes wick and heating coil. Replacements are relatively cheap and not hard to find. If your taste runs to cinnamon and citrus flavors, something similar but with a Pyrex tank makes sense.

I can't suggest anything in the UK, but now that you have five posts, you should be able to post that kind of question in the UK forum.

Tell us what you got; try it out, dont worry so much; the important thing is to get started; if its too harsh cut down the strength; too light, up the strength.

And keep the conversation going here you will save money and frustration.

Spot on. I was into over £400 before discovering e-cig forums. There are many variables with anybody wishing to really try and quit.
The first stumbling block is seeing a basic e-cig, reading the drivel on the packing and websites and falling for it. It's mostly out and out lies. Sell 1 refill for £3.99 ($6.50) and say it does the same as £16-worth of cigarettes. It's not even close to being true. It's also been proven in the last month as well....

The best e-cig vendors do not talk about "Puffs" or "cigarette equivalent"...
The best e-cig forums tend not to talk about it either, although I/we try.....

So even if I vaped 40 times a day (10 pulls pers session) with 16mg I wouldn't overdose bearing in mind I smoke 20 plus High strength cigs a day?

On a look-a-like you would underdose. (is that a word? :) )

How can I put it? There is a UK ecig that used to sell itself as doing 400 puffs. They have relaxed their marketing a bit to say 300 recently.

What we know about that e-cig is a) the strength of the liquid and b) the amount of liquid in it.
Factor in c) that we know you can't get all the liquid out of it in the vapour...

If you extracted the maximum amount you would probably get around 1/2 a pack of full strength cigarettes.

Now, we (vapers) could easily piece together a custom e-cig that produced enormous clouds of vapour... and used liquid 10 times as fast as a basic high street e-cig. You could overdose with even 10mg liquid in that, easily.

As I said (somewhere in my ramblings) I puffed on a little e-cig up to 40 times a day trying to quit smoking. It didn't work.

Would this set up be ok? Would it be compatible? Apologies I'm very new to vaping.

NEW Kanger T3S Clearomiser [VE548] - £4.99 : Vape Escape

Joyetech eGo-C Twist VV [VE367] - £22.95 : Vape Escape

Which version of the Joytech should I go for? The 650mah or the 1000mah? What's the difference?

How often would I have to replace the parts? Is it easy to clean the Kanger if I want to try different flavours? Are there flavours to avoid due to cracking?

Sorry for a lot of questions :).
