Hi guys! I thank all of you vets for hanging in here to encourage the newer users! If it hadn't been for y'all, I might not have made it to over 8 months analog-free.

I use a simple set up: I rotate 4 eGo-C batteries with low-resistance cartomizers and mostly VG tobacco flavors (my sadness at the limited availability of Boba's Bounty and Gorilla juice is subject for a different frustration based thread or pile-on). I am mostly really quite happy with my basic vaping arsenal. I feel I've been very lucky, and haven't felt the need to 'burn one' since starting.

My complaint is that, over the last 6 boxes of carto's ordered, at least one of them is DOA. Not a whole box, just one per. I travel for work and this is beginning to mess with my strategy. I suppose I'll have to carry a couple more, and order more carto's. I just think a 1-in-5 failure rate is too damn high!

Anyone else experiencing this?

This seems to be a pretty common problem with cartos from what I've heard. I've only had one box of cartos that i ordered with my first setup that also included a couple Kanger T2s and the replaceable heads. I used two cartos but didn't really like the experience in comparison to the clearomizers. I love being able to see how much juice I have left, plus they hold WAY more juice, which means less frequent filing. I since have moved on to the vivi nova and mini novas, also clearomizers. Maybe that's something you should try looking into. I have yet to get a DOA replaceable head for a nova.

When I was using cartos back in the fall of 2010, failure rate was more like 1-in-10. 1-in-5 does seem too damn high. Sometimes it is just an errant production run that works its way through the system. Multiple vendors seem to get bad batches around the same time.

My suggestion is get a good dripping atty and drip when you are just hanging in the hotel room. You'll use fewer cartos, get better flavor, and always have that as a back up should you get a whole box of bummers.

I actually dropped my tank over this, and it was killing me. I love using the DCT, but seriously... same problem. Either DOA or they die in a day or two... or I get an ungodly amount of dry hits. I finally found a clearomizer that agrees with me, but that took a lot of testing, too. I'm not sure what's going on with cartos at this point... almost like the companies think this is acceptable. Made in China... Not to be a jerk about it. But we need an innovative American or Canadian or Brit or someone else to start producing these things with some better quality standards.

This is one of many reasons I use clearomizers. No DOA's as of yet, they last longer in my experience, easier to fill, i can see how much liquid I have left, and replaceable heads. Kanger T2's for me.

It's been a while since I used cartomizers, it'd be nice if someone developed them without the filler material specifically for use with tanks. Don't think that's happened yet, would be nice to see.

unfortunately, lately the boge and the smoke tech cartos have been like this, i've even had a box where 4/5 where DOA,making me look for a new brand, i've finally settled on the ikenvape cartomizers....

since i've gone to ikenvape, i've not ever, NOT EVEN ONCE gotten a bad carto out of 8 boxes....get an adapter and try the 801 fusions (they will change your life i swear) and also the 510 diamond series....you won't be sorry, i promise

I dumped cartos about 9 months ago in favor of the Stardust clearos - I've got about 20 cartos left, but only use them with e-liquids that damage the plastic Now I've dumped the Stardusts for the Kanger T2 (and maybe the new T3 - I haven't tried them yet). The T2's rock - great flavor and lots of vapor! Plus they hold a wopping 2.4ml and look good too. I never tried the DCT tanks, but after hearing of all the carto problems, I don't think I ever would want to.

I am, however, moving into the Genesis ss mesh atomizers, having purchased a couple of DID clones. Flavor and vapor is intense! These may change the way I vape from now on. If it were not for the leaking (you have to keep them vertical when not in use) they would be my go to device and I would probably dump clearos too. Since my T2's never leak, they will still be my work devices.

But at home...

Q: Have you tried their Mega Platinum series, and are they the correct size for XL tanks? I'm currently using Smoktech cartos, and while they're OK, I'd wouldn't mind paying a few cents more for a better carto for my tanks.

I have, however they are often out of stock...all of the "mega" series fit the extra long tanks...I would highly suggest at least trying the fusions, as they perform better than anything I've ever tried before, even pre bogegate boges, hell I'm building a special 801 mod I love them so much...but their 510 cartos are still great...and still far and away better than anyone else's 510 cartos right now.

I've been using Smoktech LR XL cartos for a year now. Not a single one was DOA.

I've had to use a push pin to adjust the electrical contact on two cartos, but not a single DOA or even one that tasted like "bacon".

the turkey bacon thing, that was boge...and primarily it depends on what kind you were using, as I believe the dual coils were not effected...but primarily the single coil short barrel ressurectors...but I'm not entirely sure as I never kept up with the smoke tech issues as much as the boges...primarily because I was never much a fan of the STs anyway...and their are too many variables between equipment, etc...to pinpoint all the issues with the two companies in one post.

Thanks for the info and I'll keep an eye out on the mega platinum series or maybe sign up for stock notification and give them a try.

As for the 801 fusions, I've heard nothing but good things about those cartos in the forum and other reviews. If they made a 501/801 adapter that was either flanged or as wide as the drip well on my Provari so that my tanks couldn't slide down over the adapter, I would be more inclined to give them a try. Since the difference between 801 and 510 really is just the connector, I'm hoping that they expand the fusion line to include a 510 connector product as well so we won't need adapters.
