I agree. vaping seems to have made history by being the first product EVER that some idiots thought needed to be 100% safe for everybody all the time, in order to be allowed to exist.

Here's an even more basic one: fire. Cavemen discovered that one; good thing they had no FDA then, or we'd all still be eating raw food.

Or how about... knives. All y'all so paranoid about "vaping around kids"... do you have a padlock on your knife drawer? Oh, those can be picked; better get a combination lock, just to be *sure*.

Andria
Combination lock can still be cut. Better lock up the bolt cutters and hacksaws too.

All y'all

Hehe...I haven't heard that since I left Panama City, Fl. 17 years ago.

Second hand vapor problems? Really? Where does that fit in with these?

Here's an idea for "the children". Can't be too safe, right?

A lot of stuff on that list is in the air I breathe every day. Also in cigarette smoke. None of those are in 2nd hand vapor (formaldehyde is a lie - it's NOT in there!)

And I love hearing "y'all" from a non-Texan - especially when they know how to spell it right lol

I'm gonna leave this thread with this:

We aren't going to get anywhere in convincing other people that our cause is a good one if we're constantly circlejerking with terrible examples and faulty articles that don't actually have any scientific basis at all. We're only hurting our cause by not acknowledging that there IS another side to it, and that e-cigarettes MAY potentially be harmful.

There's some broken mentality that any sort of questioning of "is this actually safe?" will give the FDA more fuel for their fire. There's this one-sided mindset that's prevalent on this forum. I don't think it's progressive or helpful to our movement. We won't turn people onto our side if we're robotically engrained in our beliefs and refuse to see things any other way. The honest answer to "is it harmful" is "we don't know". Pbusardo even said it in one of his latest videos.

Also this isn't the first time I've said things people don't like. Some people seem to think I'm somehow an ANTZ, even though many of the people calling me that haven't been using e-cigarettes for as long as me. I'm not really bothered by people exposing their kids to vapor, people are gonna do what they wanna do, I'm bothered by people citing these bull.... articles as fact. It's very damaging to the community's image as being reasonable, knowledgeable and a "safer alternative."

And with that, I'll leave this thread to continue in the direction its been headed since the start: "vaping is less harmful than breathing air and there's no other possible risks associated with it!"

Really! I hate seeing "ya'll" -- it's a contraction for "you all" and just like any contraction, the apostrophe goes where the letters were removed! :D

If I couldn't say y'all, I'd be completely speechless. Even when I lived in MI for 5 yrs and started saying "pop" for soda, y'all was still in there. :D

Actually I think the correct response would be "we're not 100% sure... maybe more like 99.99%. Maybe 99.95%."

Close enough for gubmint work. :D

I hear that one a lot. And the ol dubya standby, "nucular" -- my husband says that too, and he's from Missouri! The one that drives me craziest is "groshery" -- but that error is often replicated with "speshies" instead of "species," and I've heard that one from folks that were from everywhere, even Canada -- Alex Trebek says "speshies"! :D

The thing to keep in mind is that yes, some southerners do talk kinda funny, but many are brilliant, college-educated people -- Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, just to name a couple of examples that leap to mind immediately, but there are a GREAT many others. There are probably also brilliant, college-educated people whose accents place their origins as NYC or "joysey". :D

Bill Clinton probably wasn't the best one to throw in there. Lmao

I will say I'm 99.9% sure 2nd hand vapor is harmless, assuming the vaper isn't doing something stupid (dry hits, crazy stupid stuff in the juice). I frequently use 99.9% when I'm sure of something because it's nearly impossible to be 100% sure of anything, but I'm tempted to say I'm 100% sure vaping is safer than smoking.

off topic:
"nucular" bugs me. so does "real-a-tor" instead of realtor.

In the 80s I got a job at a marketing company that involved me calling people across the country to ask them what they thought about an ad on tv, or a product, etc. (I got to do the "new coke" surveys - that was fun lol). After I had been there a while, my boss told me that they almost didn't hire me because of my southern drawl. Due to my performance, they revised their "no deep drawl" policy. The company only got paid for surveys that were completed, and some were long. So if someone hung up 10 minutes into a 15 minute survey, we didn't get paid. My southern drawl and charm let me finish more surveys than most of my coworkers. Once I had a New York family passing the phone around -- "hey guys - come talk to this Texan!" lol

Why? His rampant hormones have nothing to do with intelligence -- one might argue that true intelligence should trump hormones, but it usually doesn't, and he's very far from the first -- or the last! -- to prove that. He's one of the most brilliant men of our time.

Oh, I know, it made me sick when I moved to Michigan -- "say something else! That's so cuuuuuuuuuute!" ARGHHH!

Along the lines of the pet peeves you mentioned, "jew-lery" instead of "jewelry" drives me right around the bend. Nevermind if Tom Shane was REALLY my friend, I'd be wearing a lot more diamonds, if I have to hear that man say "jewlery" one more time, I may explode.

And of course the OFT misused "calvary"... when they mean to say CAVALRY! The mounted army didn't have one thing to do with that hill called Golgotha.
