Once you become a true vaper and a non tobacco smoker you won't care that your mod doesn't look like a cigarette. Performance will far outweigh looks. The great thing about the 510, kr808, rn4081 is they get people to switch from smoking. Eventually most vapers decide to upgrade to longer lasting battery mods which handle low resistance atties or provide 6volts vaping that gives tons of vaper and throat hit. The most important thing though is to use whatever works for you but don't knock what you haven't tried.
I really was just confused because I keep looking at mods and wasn't sure why I may want to. The 4.2v-3.7v vs 3.7v-3.2v deal makes a lot of sense. Also the longer battery life and cheaper replacement costs make a lot of sense.
$14-$17 for a KR-808 batt that lasts 2-3 Hrs or $10 for an 18650 that lasts 2-3 DAYS!? And it doesn't look like a dirty, filthy, STINKING ANALOG!!

+1 and not to mention that they will never ban an 18650 battery.
I don't have food and water stored for a catastrophe, but I have nic, atties, and batteries.
2 days ago I made my 1st mod from one of thos 3AAA battery flashlights.The flashlight cost me 1 dollar and the button and epoxy also cost me a dollar each. I got a 18650 battery from a old battery pack I had that housed 3 18650 protected rechargeable batteries.So the whole build only cost me 3 dollars and a hour of my time. I havent had to recharge a battery yet.Also i think i can fit 2 cr123's to vape at 6v.But im not sure yet...this is my 1st mod and ive never seen the size of a cr123.

It all depends on how often you vape. Im a heavy vaper so an ego lasts me half a day, sometimes longer but a 3.7v mod that uses the 18650 battery lasts three days. they cost $5 and after around a year when they need replaced, its just another $5 to replace it, not $10-$15 every few months on stock batts. The Ego actually is a "mod", just without a removable battery.
For looks, cost and vapor production, for ME, mods are the cats meow.
The BIGGEST advantage for me as well, is having that full powered charge all day. Stock batts lose charge from the first puff, whereas a bigger capacity batt (more mAH) will hold that 4.2v longer, thus giving that "fresh off the charger vape" all day long and only drops to 3.7v when its about to die. Stock batts are vaping well below 4.2v a few puffs into it and continues to dramatically drop off until dead a few hours later.
If 3.7v works for you, great! But for me, I just need that "extra" oomph!
Dont get me wrong, I still enjoy 3.7v, but only from a battery with 900mah or higher....
Also, the "ego" is fairly new. A year ago, we only had stock batts with 180 maH and the SD mod which was also 3.7v, only with 1000maH. Longer batt life was what everyone wanted, so more and more mods hit the market from there on.
Well said Crash. My exact thoughts also on the 18650. I use one in mY Chuck and now also in my Omega at 2 days or more when I am doing 3.7 vaping. I like 5 and 6v too a little more than 3.7 but find myself during the day using all voltages. Each has its own merits.

Multi-cell packs, including laptop battery packs use charge/discharge protection external to the cell. Good start in modding, but read up on protected Li-ion cells, please.
Until you do, be cautious about overcharging, and when the vapor gets weak, stop.

Yea your rite....I was just reading up on it...the 18650 batteries i got are unprotected. The protected batteries have a rim on the bottom where the protection board sits. I have stopped using them after i just realized they wer unprotected. I wouldnt advise anyone to use unprotected batteries so im not going to use them now that i know.

Long batt life is a key - but also the fact that batts for my 3.7 mod are so cheap... and easily replaced... like $6 for two batts.
You get a little more kick out of a true 3.7...

You should look at the variable voltage mods.........There are a few on the market now and several soon to be out.
It's an excellent concept as different juices and different attys do better at some voltages. You can adjust the voltage to suit the setup you have hooked to it.........

You must not have V4L vapor king batts...they are all I use and are great!
Just what i was about to comment. Besides all battery combinations/voltage/choices now we have variable voltage.
Having a high capacity mod (and 1300 mHa is not high when i carry 2 x 2500 mHa batteries with me) means you have the portable power of a variable voltage PT.
Six months into vaping now. I've bought quite a few PVs, including some which are now gathering dust. I haven't tried any higher voltage mods, although they say the LR atomizers simulate higher voltage and I DO like the LRs. My initial impression wasn't good but, I've grown really fond of them now. I've also grown very fond of the TorneGo batteries (especially the XL). I've just received some of the new TorneGo Mega atomizers and Mega cartomizers. So far, so good ... I'm liking them too.
Now, the TorneGo with the mega attys/cartos look absolutely nothing like a cigarette (more like a large cigar). I've never bought, nor had any desire, for a PV which had any resemblance to a cigarette!!! I quit smoking, thank you.

Actually, I do have them, I started with a V4L kit. The battery life just does not cut it for me. My fistpack can go for 2 days on one charge.
Well worth checking out the Eastmall LR-EM5 atomizers....@ yes $3 a piece and I typically receive my orders in 7-8 days.
Try cleaning your Protege up a bit, threads and all....and try again with the LR510's....thoroughly satisfying Vape...even as compared to my 5 and 6v mods... Good luck
I know what some have said about the voltage but I've never experienced the performance from the KR8's that I have vs. the performance (ie. vapor and flavor) than I have on the Bartleby and Protege (or even the 'less voltage' of the eGo).
Well, there still is the question of chemistry and healthy vaping. Is hotter safer? Or, are we getting closer to having our own little chemical factory in our hands when we vape hotter?
OF course, we are adults and know what is good for us, not like children that will try and huff anything that gets them high.
I went from cigarettes to cigars because cigars were safer, fewer chemicals. The harder "hit" from inhaling a cigar wasn't really part of it
A little 3.7 volt battery (actually about 10 little batteries) got me off the cigars. Now 3.7 volt big batteries, and variable Nic levels are working (2 to 3 18650 charges make an entire day). Carrying a big battery mod gets me the 'attention' I want and is satisfying.

But, that's just me.
