Hi all, i'm reasonably new to vaping but did quite a lot of research before taking the plunge into vaping. Now i didnt take up vaping to quit smoking, just to cut it down. I found out about pv's for the first time about a month or so ago and it was via a spam message i got in my inbox, which is weird as i never read my spam mail, but something got my attention and one month later and im a vaper.

my first pv was a super, seemed cheap enough to try for a first to see what it was like. on the whole i was largely disappointed with it. so i upgraded pretty quickly to a riva 510 and a riva 901 (couldnt decide). well im hooked now..........what a difference this thing is!

now for anyone doubting whether they work or not, im here to tell you they do! if they dont it's because ultimately you dont want them to. In the past week i have smoked 10 real cigarettes compared to an average of 150 in that period of time normally.

are they cost effective? well so far i'd have to say no............but if they add a few years on my life span i'd say yes. long term maybe they will be more cost effective when i find a routine of vaping, like a consistent flavour and strength and finding out how to effectively utilise atomizers, cartomizers and direct dripping.

so to the title. well basically i've become obsessed with this. i just forked out almost 200 on kit and im already looking at other pv's, attys and e-liquids. so i thought it was time i turned to you guys to get some advice............

is it worth getting a 5v or 6v device? are they that much better? if so any recommended devices that i can get in the uk? why cant i find the ggts in stock any where? is the wet box worth getting (or something similar)? is a screwdriver going to be better than my riva? best uk suppliers? i currently use liberty flights, totally wicked and cloud 9 vaping. recommended flavours? attys and carts, cartomizers or direct dripping?

In my case, it was. You'll have to decide for yourself it you want to invest any further. The best thing about my first (and currently, only) mod, is the juice feeding feature. I was thoroughly sick of fooling with carts, cartos, and dripping. A lot of people can use them with no hassle. I couldn't. I'm currently using my Reo Grande with a 3.7 volt battery and a LR atomizer. I like the 6.0 & 7.2 volt options mainly because I can "resurrect" some used standard 510 attys by doing short interval dry burns at the higher voltage to burn away deposits. That's after blowing them out and soaking them then letting them air dry, mind you. The Joye 510 I started with is now my backup PV and my wife puffs on it occasionally.

There's a UK sub-forum further down the ECF Forums page. Why not pop in there and put a feeler out to see if any veteran vapers live near you and could possibly let you try some devices they might happen to own?

Also, one thing to keep in mind is that unless I am mistaken the Riva does not actually run at 3.7 volts.
I believe that although it is a 3.7 volt battery it only runs at about 3.2 volts under load.

When I moved up from a 3.2 volt battery to a true 3.7 volt battery I noticed a big difference.

But I don't like 5 volts and definitely don't like 6 volts, too hot for me.
But then I like to take big, long drags.
:)

yeah i have read that it's 3.2 and not 3.7, though weird why they say it's 3.7 when it's just easier to say 3.2 or whatever. from what i've read the only impact it has is if you're using a l/r atty/cartomizer that has a bigger drain on battery life span.

my drip tip arrived yesterday and although im not planning on direct dripping i feel this is a great tool to have as the hole is bigger on it and get easier air flow on sucking. also got xl cartomizers and for flavour and vapour production these are great, though at 3 ohms there is zero throat hit.

I'm really beginning to lean towards the 3.7V with a LR atty/carto combo myself. I don't mind vaping at 5V when I'm using my mods as PT's, but I usually only do that as long as it takes to charge a battery. I really don't like to vape 6V. It's too hot and most of my juice tastes burnt.

well if i do get a 6v device it'll be a variable device like a lg sidewinder so that i have the option of 6v, seems like a lot of money to buy a device I potentially might not use or like. the rivas that i got are great for my daily use, i put 2 of them with some fully loaded cartomizers, few 5ml bottles of juice in my carry case (ego/tornado case). Though i admit i have taken a massive preference to the 510 over the 901 (only charged the once). at the moment i am still trying flavours and therefore only buying 5ml bottles, once i find ones i like i will buy a bigger amount of it. though it's weird with some juices as i didnt like at first and now love, maybe it was because my body didnt like the change in mouth flavour lol. also ones i did love i had issues with later on............like i loved the double mint, but after i used it all day at work (only my breaks) i was left with this dry weird taste.........a bit like what you get when you chew the same piece of gum for a few hours. i felt dehydrated and hungry. anyways im waiting on some more flavours to arrive to make a more detailed decision.

First, welcome and congrats on quitting.

"Better" is one of those subjective things. What some consider better (like 6v vaping), I consider way too harsh - but my taste is evolving. I got my first cartomizer and it was too much - I couldn't handle it. A few days later it was great, and now it's all I use. Knowing that what I like today could change next week, but being in the same place you are - I want more from my e-cig than I'm currently getting from a standard eGo - I went with a variable voltage setup. Several things played into the decision:
  • Different juices need different atties/cartos to bring out their best, and I'm tired of trying to juggle all of them
  • I want more vapor and more heat, but I don't want a harsh throat hit
  • I don't have enough experience with enough PVs to know what voltage will work best for me
  • With a variable voltage device, any attie/carto is the "right" one, I just have to tweak the setting on my PV
It makes sense to me, and it's worth the money to me, so I did it. I haven't gotten mine yet - the one I want is recently developed and there's a waiting list - but I expect it by the end of the month, and everyone who has already gotten theirs is raving about it, so I expect to be satisfied.

the provari by any chance?

Yup, it's the ProVari. I'm a tech geek (work for a NASA subcontractor) and its features appealed to me. I like the push-button control of voltage, instead of using an old-style pot. I like the ability to read out the atomizer resistance, I like the auto-calibration of the power feed. I pretty much like all of it.
