I am looking for a 5v pv or a battery combination that will work in some of the popular mods found on this site.

I do have a GLV from great lakes vapour with a 5v resistor, but i want another 5v pv and cannot find one.

It would also be nice if someone explains the different batteries and voltage output. For example, 2 3v batteries put out 6v and 2 3.6v batteries put out 7.2, so how can one get 5v without a resistor? Some mods claim you can vape at 3.7, 5 and 6 volt depending on battery combination.

Thanks,

the only mod I know of that doesn't use a resistor for 5v is the mako maksi which utilizes a "specific" battery. If you're set on 5v you can go for the Buzz which allows you to change the voltage from 3.7 - 6.0 and everything in between, for example 4.7v, 4.8v etc. There is also the joker that puts out 5v but there have been a lot of faulty reports going around, safety features not working, battery indicators failing, I would stray from this $160 catastrophe. Personally I like 6v devices, i've never had burning juice problems, and the selection of device-looks are impressive. but if you can get past the looks of the buzz (or if its your style) and you really need 5v then go for it

Some 5-volt mods run with a regulator, a chip that limits the voltage from the two batteries to a constant 5 volts. It's a better system than a resistor for two important reasons:

- The voltage is always dead on 5v even right up till the moment the batteries die; but with a resistor the voltage varies with battery voltage and gradually drops.
- If you get one with a 4-pin chip, it has a control pin wired to the on/off switch, which means the switch only carries a tiny current to actuate the device, instead of the full current to the atomizer, and this is a big plus. (3-pin regulators are the same as straight-thru devices, the full system current goes through the switch.)

There isn't a huge choice of 5-volt 4-pin regulator mods just now, but as that's my favorite type of ecig, I'm hoping the field gets bigger...
