Hey there,
After smoking Marlboro Reds for 35 years I finally decided that I had enough and needed to quit. (Well I have tried to quit about 150 times before with no success)
My story~
I was buying a car for my daughter a couple of weeks ago from a friend of mine and saw he was puffing on this thing that looked like something we used to use back in the day for "other things" and I asked him what the hell is that??? He began to tell me about E Cigs and how he hadn't smoked a cigarette for over a month by using these things. He handed it to me and said try it so I did. WOW, I was impressed at the similarities to a real cig. The draw was very good. The hit was real tasting and I liked the taste for the most part. He continued to tell me about how they didn't have any tar or other chemicals in them like my Reds. So I asked him where he got them etc. and he sent me to a local place to check it out. I talked with my wife about it and she said she would try it with me so he we go... :)

Here is what I ended up buying---
3 Ego C Twist 1000
1 Ego C Twist 650
2 Vision Ego V2 Clearomizers 1.6ml
1 Kanger Clearomizer 2.4 ml - can't remember all the specifics about it
1 Mini Vision Vivi Nova V2

Then to the juice--- I am not really sure of all the brand names because some of them don't have anything other than the Flavor names on them
For me I bought 1 bottle- USA Mix 16 mg and a bottle of 6 mg
1 bottle of Some stuff called High Caliber 50-50 Our4 1.2%- Tastes kind of like Caramel

For her we bought
2 small bottle Vanilla 6mg
1 small bottle Tooty Frooty 6mg or something like that.. lol

She tried it for ONE DAY and didn't like the taste and says it is too strong and also gives her a headache. (She smokes Virginia Slims Ultra Light) so I am not sure if it is really too strong or if she just isn't ready to try to quit or not. She bought some smokes and has been back on them since and says she will try the E Cigs again this weekend... Maybe she needs to try another flavor... We will see...

Anyhow back to me...
I have been off the Reds for 2 weeks now and am enjoying the newness of the E Cig thing. The 16mg USA mix is a little strong but I mix the Our4 stuff in with it to weaken it down and like it pretty well. I don't like the Our4 by itself now after using it for a few days though. Not sure if it is the taste or what. I am using the USA mix 6 mg. regularly and like it for the most part but now I am have some issues and I am not sure what is causing it.

I have started to get some sores in my mouth like canker sores. I don't want to blame it right away on the smoke juice but I am wondering if that is what is the culprit. I don't want to tell my wife because she will probably use that as a reason to not try them again (she is a hypochondriac) so here I am looking for help.

Alright--- that's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Any thoughts-help-suggestions are appreciated and wanted.
This seems like a great place to talk about my new found addiction. Hope you all can help me find what is going to work for me because I am pretty much committed to quitting those damn Reds and I need something to keep my hands busy!! :vapor:

Welcome & congrats on finding something thats working for you. Half the battle is finding someone like your friend to help get you pointed in the right direction!

Some people experience a variety of temporary issues when they start to vape, it could be you need to take in more water, or change up the ratio of your juice. I've not experienced this, so hopefully someone else can chime in.

Since you aren't sure what the juice is, I'd ask, is it PG, VG or a mix? If they don't know and buy it premade it could be chinese juice which alot of people seem to like. There are alot of US companies here on the forums that make semi custom to custom juices to suite your needs, including nic level, which may be part of what your wife is experiencing.

Good luck, stay with it and keep us posted! ;)

As far as your wife, she is a smoker, yes? Just because she's female doesn't mean she's necessarily going to like vanilla and tooty fruity. That crap gives me a headache too. Find her something that tastes more like tobacco.

The sores in your mouth could indicate an allergic reaction to something in the juice. PG is (not for certain, but) often the culprit. Try some 100% VG juice and see if they go away.

Hi TacoBob, welcome to ECF and congrats to yourself and your wife. Yeah these things are amazing. I'm allergic to Methyl Maltol aka Cotton Candy, a sweetener they use in juices. I broke out in cankers- after I stopped using it the cankers went away in 2 days.
Vaping is also extremely dehydrating. The PG and VG are hygroscopic- they trap moisture in our mouth, throat and lungs and thus the vapor. WITHOUT vaping more than 4 cups java per day and we become dehydrated. Caffeine laced drinks will also dehydrate. I drink at least 1 1/2 liters of water per day.
Best of Luck and again, congrats.

Hello and congrats! I am really happy for anyone who decides to make the switch! I am also a bit new at vaping but I was told it was important to make sure that there is no diacetyl in the juice, many flavours can't seem to avoid it and it's being sold anyway, this ingrediant is supposed to be linked to something called "Popcorn lung" so it's good to ask questions! =)

Now about the wife.. There are many side effects related to quitting smoking, I've heard headaches and nausia happen often to people, all that should calm down after a few days! it's worth the 3-5 days of minor suffering.

Happy vaping =)

Congrats on vaping! I have had some slight canker sores once in a blue moon on the tip of my tongue mostly. I realized it was from putting the tip of my tongue on my drip tip hole alot and it was from the juice hitting my tongue alot. Once I paid attention and was sure to inhale without my tongue resting over the hole of the drip tip, I didn't have anymore problems.

Welcome to ECF and congrats on your success.

Your wife's headache could be from too much nicotine, an allergy to PG and/or to something in the flavoring. You might want to try some Virgin Vapor juices. They use 100 VG juices and their flavorings that are less likely to have chemicals that will trigger allergies. The Virgin Vapor site mentions that the majority of their customers prefer the extra flavor option.

Wow, thanks for all the replies and feedback so FAST!! I have had some issues with the Vision V2's leaking a bit and have gotten some of it in my mouth so I am leaning more towards the Kanger and Mini VV Nova more as they seem not to leak so far. I hope that is most of the problem with the mouth sores and will continue to monitor it as we go along. I did order some lower nicotine strength American made juice from Mountain Oak and hope that they will be more like what we are looking for in taste for my wife and maybe help me out with the sores as well.

As far as my wife goes, she says she will try it again this weekend as soon as I get the new juice in. I am hoping that she likes the taste and strength of the lower nicotine. We have spent on the average $600-$700 a month on cancer sticks for YEARS and I think that will help nudge her along on our journey in this new way of stress relief as well as feeling better! :2cool:

I looked at the bottles and most of them are PG. The one bottle of High Caliber OUR4 is 50/50 PG/VG. Maybe I should try switching over to more of the VG??

The tooty frooy is already in the trash can... lol--- I am thinking I will use the vanilla to mix with other flavors and see if I can come up with some flavors that I/we like without wasting the cash we spent on it.

Thanks again and I look forward to being a regular here. :p

I looked at the bottles and most of them are PG.
PG is known to be an irritant. Industry standards are 70/30 or 80/20 PG/ VG. As suggested Virgin vapor has some amazing juice and is highly regarded and well known in the vaping world for dealing with juice related issues. Here's their ECF Vendor thread:

Never tried that one but you'll find some juices need to be steeped- put in dark cupboard for 2 weeks- open cap every couple days to allow fresh air in. Gets rid of the horrid chemical taste.

Quit using the Vision V2s if they leak. Getting juice in your mouth is very likely the cause of your canker sores. If you ever get juice in your mouth rinse your mouth out with water well. Nicotine is absorbed through skin and juices are designed to be vaped, not applied to your skin or inside your mouth. If you get juice on your skin wash it off right away.

If your wife is allergic to PG it is not likely a lower amount of PG will help much, if at all. It normally only takes a miniscule amount of a substance to trigger an allergy.

Don't throw flavors you don't like in the trash. Let them sit for at least a couple of weeks to steep. Many juices change flavors for the better when left sitting to steep for awhile. Also, I found that mixing some of my least favorites with a cream-flavored juice has made them nice enough to vape.

Thanks again for the help!

I actually worked with a friend who would get the same kinda sores in the mouth every time he quit smoking. They eventually subsided. If I never knew him I would suspect the juice. Have you every gotten anything similar when you tried quitting in the past?

And as mentioned before drink lots of water.
