I just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I was worried that there was something wrong with my ProVari .. that I'd need to ship it back to ProVape to have a look at it. At first I didn't know what was going on.. I'd go to fire and 1/2 the time it wouldn't. I realized a couple days ago that it was the battery losing contact. I thought the thing was loose inside the tube or something.. That something was broke...

I got to thinking about the troubleshooting steps folks here had talked about. I took out my battery and looked at the inside battery connection. Yep, gunked. Isopropyl alcohol only took off so much of it. Sat down with a mechanical pencil and erased 95% of the gunk. The post isn't sparkly clean, but my ProVari isn't failing to fire anymore.

Thanks!

I think we can all agree that clean nipples and gunk-less contacts are the way to get a nice, robust vape :img: .

Hey, hey now. My nipples were/are clean!

No idea how the battery contact on the ProVari got gunked. It wasn't a true "gunk," it was some kind of hard buildup. I'm sure some electro-techie out there knows exactly what that was.

Heh, heeheeeeheeeeee, huh! She said "hard"! Huh, heeheeeheeeeeheeeee!

The Provari was DESIGNED around the AW IMR battery, there is even a thread around here that shows how the PCB is made with a "V" notch in it, so you have to use a, heh, heeheeee, heeeeeeeeheeeee, nipple top battery in it! They also advise against using magnets, as was already stated.

I agree with everything you said all the way up until the 3rd "heeheeee" :D

The OP had bought the provari 2nd hand (No Warranty)... So trying a magnet with the battery would have calmed the anxiety of wondering if it was dead or not.

Car manufacturers recommend that you shouldn't use synthetic oil too.... How many folks take that advice??

Personally, I am just happy things worked out and that Adeline is clean and gunk-less.. :p

I'm not even going to qualify that statement!!

On the other hand, Toyota requires me to use synthetic oil in my car. :)

I know, that was a "Beavis" voice, you just had to go with it in my mind I guess?
Yes, I understand the frustration and concern, a glob of solder, or even some tin foil wadded up would have satisfied the concern of function.
I was just trying to reiterate how the Provari came to be, they built it around the best battery they could find, and using anything else may or may not work. One of the main reasons I've run nothing but AW's in my mini. Sure, I can get them cheaper, but will they work and is it worth the hassle?

:toast: Let's all toast Adeline's cleanlines and gunklessness! :toast:

Back on topic. Ummm, what was it again?

Oh yeah. Somehow carbon deposits build up on the metal contacts of the battery's nipple :D and positive contact in the Provari. This is the gunk seen. The Provari is extremely sensitive to this buildup, more than any of my other mods.

I also had to pull out the hot spring a little in the end cap so that the battery had better contact. It seems, at least with my Provari, that I need to repeat this time to time, as it has a tendency to get compressed.

CARBON! That makes a lot of sense. It was the word that came to mind.. but I wasn't sure. Hopefully the noalox will help prevent it.
