Just out of curiosity, how they built it to fit just the nemesis? as far as I understand the nemesis is a basic mechanical mod with standard 510 connection, so how come the 3D won't work with any other device?

Thanks!

The reason is because the 3d does not have a 510 connection. You remove the top cap from the mod and it screws right into the tube. The connection point on the atty makes direct contact with your battery, eliminating most of the voltage drop. This is what defines it as a hybrid (no 510, direct battery connection).

There is a 510 adapter you can use with the 3d which would allow it to work on any 510 mod, be it electronic or mechanical.

Got my 3D off eBay last week for 40 shipped. Received it in 2 days, before I did anything I drilled out the holes in the top cap and the top ring ( now the holes aren't so tiny and useless ).. Gave it a good bath and first tried a single coil and it was hitting nicely w good flavor.. Decided to try a dual vertical micro coil and WOW! It's just as good if not better then my Origen v1 and v2 in flavor. Since I drilled the holes and made them more useable, it pumps out the vapor! And the flavor is just so juicy tasting (hard to describe)

So far no issues or major complaints .. I might even decide to drill a 2nd plunge hole in the tank. Even though the single plunge hole works perfectly fine I think having 2 holes opposite from each other might pump and drain the eliquid more evenly ..

If you haven't done dual coils yet on the 3D you are really missing out !

So i got bored tonight and decided to rip apart my 3D coils and try something new. I decided to give twisted kanthal a try (I tried it only once before on my KFL)

So this build took me about 30 mins! That center post just kept on moving and moving every time i went to tighten down the leads and it just kept turning/spinning the post and messing up my coils.. I finally got it secured and it messed up my coils a little but nothing major.

All i can say is WOW! lol i had no clue what resistance i would be getting, I went with twisted 28g, 7wraps around a blunt tip needle. 0.37ohms! WOW! I can only take like 3 seconds puffs before i need to stop, lol. I think next time i will add a few more wraps. The flavor/vape is insane with this build but its just way to strong for me. Figured i would share it before i ripped it apart. I am going to vape whats in the tank then when it runs dry start a new one.

Looks good. Another thing you can try is to twist your wires tighter. In the image the wires don't appear to be twisted that tightly. This will add resistance while maintaining a similiar number of coil wraps.

Thanks for sharing buy the way. Mine should be here shortly.

If you are referring to the coils being much tighter/closer together that was caused by the center post. Every time i tried to tighten down the coil, the post would spin and then pull the coils all apart and bend them all out of shape. I was messing with that spinning center pin for almost 30 mins until i finally got it. The coils were perfect up until that happened.

If you referring to the actual twists in the kanthal, I wasn't sure how much to twist it. I chucked the kanthal into my drill and slowly spun the wire for awhile until it looked good and felt tightly twisted. If your saying that i should have twisted the kanthal even longer, Then i will give that a try on my next build. Since this is only my 2nd time using twisted i wasn't really sure how much was to much when twisting the wire with my drill.

Thanks for the tip though! I will for sure keep it in mind on my next build

Got her up and running. Maf2k8- I know what you mean now about the center post spinning. That was a bugger.

I just used some regular 28g kanthal. 8 wraps per coil around a 1/16" bit. About half an ohm total. This thing rips!

Air flow needs to be increased but so far I'm really liking it.

Filling was a bit weird. I ended up just filling the deck then plunging it down. Did this 3 times and by the third it was full (I think). Next time I might use a syringe thru the fill port.

Flavor is mighty fine. Clouds are fluffy despite the slight lack of air. TH is good but nothing too overwhelming despite my distance from the air holes.

Been playing with this thing for a few days now. Quite... odd. Do like, tho. Tried both some silica and ekowool which both worked just fine. Microcoil. Since I don't like cotton, I manned up to try The One True Wick; Mesh ;) :D

It's pretty awesome, if I dare say so myself. Quite some distance from air intake, but no nasty throat hit. Quite smooth in fact.

Please forgive my horrible photography skills and keep in mind this was just a quick toss-up to see if it worked at all.

Scorched the wick a bit too much for my liking in an attempt to compress the coil better. ~1.1 ohms with 0.32mm kanthal.

Interesting thread. Let me bounce something off you guys and of course comments and corrections are always welcome.

My first two builds with the 3D (from vapingtech) all leaked juice into the 510 connector after a day or two. Not a few drops but lots. I think I figured it out??? After a clean, the FIRST thing I install and tighten is that pesky center pin and the screw. I used a washer from the other post also since I'm a single coil guy. At last I could tighten this center pin/screw thingy properly. Finally I loosened the fill valve a few threads so the post assembly is prevented from rotating.

Just finished this and my fingers are crossed. If anyone else has thoughts or corrections by all means please post.

Thanks in advance.

:)

im thinking your leak came from a less-than-100% secured center post. i dont know for sure because mine doesnt have a 510 adapter, just hybrid. however, the concept is the same AFAIK and you would get leaking if this post was not 100% secure.
BINGO and thanks. You jogged my memory. The center post/screw was the last thing I installed before the top during my first two leaky builds and I could not tighten it down far enough for the screw to make solid contact with the Kanthal. It was loose during those builds.

/fingers crossed :)

Forgot to ask...

Anyone tried filing down the hybrid connector on the Fasttech 3D? Wondering what's underneath the plating and how it will affect voltage drop. Makes my nemmie switch stick out a bit too far.

i was thinking of doing the same thing but then i decided against it. instead im using my batts that are slightly shorter than others. another idea i had was to use one of the nemesis beauty rings to extend the length of the tube just enough. havent tried that yet as it might make it too long. *but* if its too long, we can use magnets. choices!

I've always been curious, finally decided to ask...

Why doesn't the stainless steel, which is conductive, cause a short in the coil itself? And why when people talk about using mesh as a wick talk about scorching or burning it?

Build looks interesting though. I've not been too pleased with my results with silica on a single coil build and since they were nice enough to actually include a bit of stainless steel mesh in the parts bag of the clone thought I'd give it a try.
