the dive's do tend to have more "authentic" food. but no place does menudo or posole like my sis-in-law. some places add beef tips instead of using tripe!

In college everybody knew I was engaged to a lady that was half Mexican. So, they would always ask me what to get at the tienda across the street. It had a little grill in the back, but nobody really had an understanding of Mexican food. One of my favorite gags (for people that got on my nerves) was to tell them, "go in and order their biggest bowl of menudo." Nobody knew what they were getting in to.
