Is the unit direct 510 to battery only, or does it have a standard top cap? I build low, and no matter how much I check my build or stay within my safety buffer, direct to battery still kind of scares me! Not to mention most of my drippers have taken a beating and I'm nervous of potentially firing when a connection isn't being made properly due to a short pin or something along those lines. It's just so sexy..... [emoji24][emoji28]

The new Stingray X is a potential choice for you. The version by SXK, the one Infinite (and now focalecig) sell, comes with a semi-hybrid adapter which makes it 49mm long in 18350 mode, the same size as the 4nine. Plus the option of using a standard style top cap for those atomizers that need it or that you don't want to use with the adapter. It only adds 4mm to the height. The USA warehouse of focalecig had them, under $38, should have restock soon if they're out of them now.

As far as the 4nine, you want to avoid the one sold by Infinite because its too long by 2mm and requires an extra magnet on the battery to make up the difference. I have 2 4nine clones. They work well with my Fogger V4 and black edition kayfun lite + clone. The standard kayfun without the adjustable center pin on the 510 connector isn't a good choice for the 4nine since the center pin is even with the outside bit.

Funny you recommend the Stingray X. I was up in the air about these two mods about 2 days ago until I saw that the Stingray X comes with the hybrid adapter. Got my SX coming in the mail. :vapor:

The focalecig 4nine has a hybrid cap that comes with a small adjustable 510 pin. (at least mine did) I don't use it, because no matter what it seemed to be too long using a button top battery. I added an oring on my Kayfun to get the pin out a bit more. Works good, but I still have issues with the firing button. I have to press it on the side.....dead center press= no contact. I have to do some investigation into that. I think the magnet in the button was placed at an angle. Overall a neat little mod. BTW I have only used it in 18350 mode.

One of my 4nine clones came with an off center magnet in the switch. Just used the hole in the center of the bottom of the switch to pop out the battery. Cleaned up the battery hole because some sort of glue was in there and then put the magnet back in. Works well now.

Another had glue on the spacer / battery magnet which needed to be removed to assure that it fired correctly.

I just suggested the Stingray X because its the same very short height and already comes with the semi-hybrid adapter.

The only concern should be making SURE your center pin is extending BELOW the 510 threading and the 510 threading is not to long as to cause the switch to prematurely engage.
If the pin sticks down and the switch has movement - Done Deal, Vape.:)

Been Vaping my 4Nine for about a week. Great little mod with minor quirks.
Have to make sure the battery side magnet is properly centered in the plastic spacer or it looses contact - plastic doesn't conduct.
Have to make sure the 510 reaches the battery or nothing happens

If you are the slap a battery in and go type - Go with another mod. This one likes getting some attention and rewards nicely!:vapor:

Thanks all.I went ahead and picked up a stingray x and a few tobhs by tobeco. Has anybody tried the Tobh by tobeco in hybrid mode ? Not sure if the center pin is adjustable. Curious what exactly happens if you fire a hybrid and its not making proper contact? Does it vent shortly thereafter or explode? Just curious.

If it's not making a circuit nothing happens. If you are making a short then you ruin your battery and things can get warm from there.

I've used my copper 4nine clone with a Trident v2 clone built as low as 0.25 ohms. It works fine with the direct connect to my vtc5. If you chain vape, the atty does get warm quickly (which I'm sure you already know...duh!), which does heat up the entire tube. If you unscrew the battery, it feels fine. Because of the heating of the tube, however, I have changed up my builds for the 4nine and stay within 0.6-0.7 ohms. I usually chain vape the 4nine while I'm on a break at work and didn't like the tube heating up on me.

My topper for the 4nine, currently, is a copper TOBH clone from Cigreen. Built to 0.7 ohms, it works great. The long 510 pin makes great connection and leaves me with a short throw. Fires consistently.

I suggest you LOOK before you leap.
If it LOOKS wrong, it probably is.
How could I LOOK at something I have yet to PURCHASE? [emoji24][emoji28]

I ended up going with the stingray x anyway. Ill experiment with the hybrid kit..I've got a few attys that should work well and I know ones that won't. Can't wait. :D

Once received - and hopefully completely cleaned to remove any stray manufacturing debris(microscopic metals)
When you insert your atty into the Hybrid Adapter - LOOK
If the center pin sticks down, your good to go.
If the center pin is almost or dead flush you probably want to avoid use.

Dead short can happen in an instant. Battery Damage a heartbeat later.

Stingray is the Safer choice since the switch is the adjustment point.

Be careful with adjustable/non-sealed atomizer pins on hybrid caps..easy way to destroy batteries. I only trust my origen and similar sealed attys to not leak..well, I still use everything else...and I can trust that even though they may not leak now..they will.

But the tobeco tobh impressed me..the threads suck, but my hcigar version2 heat sink doesn't hug the the atomizer enough..at least before I torched the hell out it, to give it a weird black, with almost golden blimeshes.
