Hi everyone!
I'm about 4 weeks into vaping. This isn't my first post, but I'm still "new". I wasn't sure where to post this, so I hope it's ok here.

We got our mods the day after thanksgiving. I'm down to 1 or 2 analogs per day from about a pack to pack and a half. The first couple of weeks seemed a little easier. Yesterday and today I've noticed my desire to have a "smoke" is a bit stronger. Right now I am using 6mg nic. What is the next highest nic I could go to? I'm thinking it may be a good idea to go up just a little bit for when I get these cravings.
I think the next highest is 12, which is basically doubling what I have now.

Right now, when a craving hits, I'm vaping and vaping and vaping! I will not go back to a pack or more a day.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
I'm five weeks into vaping and not a single ciggie in all that time. When I get a craving for an analogue, a single hit from my 12mg juice satisfies that need admirably. And especially if its a juice I really like. Until I hit upon a couple of juices I really like, I didn't realise Its not the taste of cigarettes that I like but its the nicotine hit I want. And vaping delivers the throat hit and nicotine efficiently. Unlike ciggies where each drag is not necessarily equally satisfying. Without a doubt, take it up to 12 mg.

Buy the same flavor as you have in 12mg, if you find it too strong mix it 50-50 with your 6mg and that will give you 9mg.

Couldn't agree with this more, a cherry flavor got me through my first couple weeks, soon after that I discovered the joy of skittles that I vaped on for over a month straight, I'd never consider those flavors now but finding the right juice is very very important! Even changing flavors up is very important, I look at it like this, imagine every time you turned on your tv it was the same episode of your favorite show over and over and over for weeks on end, sounds like it would get boring after a while doesn't it?

When a craving hits, I'm vaping and vaping and vaping!

Be especially careful doing that , it's very common in the beginning when your not sure of what mg strength is right for you to vape like a madman .

I did the same and it didn't go very well , i started sweating profusely and before i knew it i found myself twitching on the floor as i watched the room rotate around me, ( this is usually the time when you say to yourself you will never touch anything with nicotine in it again ) because it's a terrible experience .

IMO 12mg is nothing unless you're using a high powered device or a chain vaper. i suggest 18mg minimum if neither of those.. maybe after a month or so you can drop it down to 12mg. im not a chain vapor so 18mg is perfect for me. when i get an urge to smoke i chain vape a little and the 18mg kills that crave quickly.. personally i'd also stay away from those high powered mod/devices as they are more for lung hits. something like a protank 3 mini, Aerotank mini, or nautilus mini which are more suited for ex smokers who inhale mouth to lung. it helps psychologically if you use the proper device.. holding a device the size of a toaster didn't help me at all (although the mods are lot smaller now than a few years ago when i first quit)..

Well, I'd be too nervous to go to 18mg, as I don't want to worry about getting too much (I do vape often). I'm at 6 now, so 12 would be double. If I just can kill those occasional strong craving, I'll be good to go!

Thanks everyone for helping me out with suggestions and advice!

I think all the other posters have already covered the bases, but...

I started off at 12mg, which was equivalent to type of cigs
I was smoking. I gradually weened myself down to 6mg, 4mg
and now 3mg due to my upgrade to sub-ohm tanks. I dropped
the nic strength every month, so I wouldn't feel like I was
being hit head on by a Mack truck.

You are also addicted to all the other crap that cig makers
add to their tobacco, so there is a double withdrawal battle
taking place.

I had cravings once a week for a few months and they vanished
after that period of time.

Good luck!

When I started I needed to keep some higher nic liquid and some 0mg liquid on hand of my favorite flavor. That gave me the flexibility to mix up whatever worked. Combine 12mg with 6mg at 50/50 to get 9mg...and so on. It will take awhile to get rid of those cravings, and you never know what exterior force is going to trigger them. Sounds like you are already doing a great job resisting the dark side...may the force be with you.

This is good advice here. But you don't have to dedicate a tank or mod to a higher nic level. Better chance of the bounce up causing you to anchor there. When that happens it can take longer to wean back down than the first go round. Nah, just hit your tank up with a drop or two of the higher nic level juice. See how that works for ya. Might need a tad more the first few times. I had a bad bounce and did kick back up and the dropper method worked for me ultimately along with the graduated blending Grim described.

Best of luck to you all and Happy Holidays. :)

StaceyB,

If it's to your liking, you should give something like "Cinnamon Danish" juice
a try. The cinnamon adds a bit of a flavor kick that may help with your cravings.

I also like minty/menthol flavors for cravings (I never smoked menthols), or lemon/lime citrus. Flavors can really be your friends here.

Good luck!

Look at me with 333 days! W00T!

HOW are you vaping? WHAT are you vaping??
If you are vaping 6mg with an old RDA at 1, 1.2, or 1.5 ohm coil and stock (tiny) airflow, it's probably nowhere close to enough nicotine to replicate cigarettes.
IF you are however vaping 6mg w/a subohm tank, at 0.3, 0.4, 0.5, or even 1.0ohms, with the airflow toward the middle or highest setting, 6mg should be good.
If you are in the 1st category, you may either A. want to try subohm vaping (on a device capable of this, with a tank [and coil] capable of this) OR... U might just try more nicotine!
IF you are in the 2nd category, you may want to try a 9mg e-liquid (which most quality e-juice vendors WILL accomodate, specially for you. ECBlends, MtBakerVapor, etc)

Now, i simply would-not recommend 12mg if your set-up is anything like the 2nd option above. It's just too much nicotine. 12 to 18mg is perfect for the 1st option above.
back when all/most n00bs, like yourself, were ALL in the 1st option above, I was in the camp recommending 12mg, while, every1 else was recommending 18-24mg at the least.
MY reasoning, for WHY a NEW vaper should try a MEDIUM to LOW mg nicotine amount, was that, NEW vapers, will have their PV to their mouths, A-LOT... Am i correct? I usually was. :p
If you smoked a lot (like, every 20-30 mins, like i did/do when I smoke rather than vape...) then you're going to VAPE, A-LOT. DUH! lol. So, IF ur using the OLD style PV/COILS, 12-18mg!
However, with the introduction of these damn new-fangled "low-ohm, high watt BEGINNER devices" (which I believe have no right to be marketed as n00b devices) u need 6-9mg!

Ramsay (above me) brings forth a good point... Are you indeed getting your preferred THROAT-HIT? If not, u may want to UP your nicotine OR the amount of PG in your liquid.
For me, the whole cravings thing, stems from my cravings for THROAT HIT... Nicotine Rush is second to Throat Hit, haha. (but, my body knows when it needs more nic, too, lol)
U may want to use a higher PG (instead of higher VG) juice, if u are missing the throat hit. that cud do it... tho, u may also want to increase the nic, for better TH, as - well. ;)

Aside from the above tips and tricks, i usually like to tell new vapers, to STOP!
.....STOP IT! Just STOP IT! Just STOP craving cigarettes, OKAY!!? JUST STOP IT! Just stop whining about craving cigarettes, and if you're still smoking 1-2, STOP IT! just STOP it!
(lol) This may sound like a bad therapist's method of getting a bed wetter to stop wetting the bed... but... I find that, it can be quite effective for ex smokers new vapers...
If you are still smoking that 1 or those 2 cigarettes a day (or 5, or 10...) and telling everyone that "oh vaping has helped me cut-down sooo much, it's sooo great!)
Then you're cheating yourself. Stop it. Stop cheating yourself. MOST of us switched to vaping seamlessly, without smoking those 1-2 a day for the 1st month or two.
In-Fact, EVERYTIME i switch back to vaping from a smoking relapse, i switch 100%, with NO cigarettes on the side. NO cigs at night before bed, or in the AM, or after meals.
JUST STOP IT! CUT IT OUT! STOP SMOKING! You're NEVER going to STOP craving cigarettes, until you STOP smoking, COMPLETELY... So STOP IT! STOP SMOKING! Duh!
You need to stop smoking, simple as that, harsh as it is, the truth hurts, eat it. Stop smoking. Every time I smoke 1-2 a day when I switch, I wind-up smoking again. STOP IT.
If you aren't going to take vaping seriously, the ciggy cravings aren't going to go away. ever. they're going to stick around and torment you for the rest of your life. ;)
STOP SMOKING and SOLELY VAPE! If you still feel like you're craving a cigarette, after having NOT smoked, for 3-4 weeks, something is up with your brain... Trust me. lol.
You SHOULD stop craving the cigs after tht amount of time... Because.. Once you've spent that amnt of time w/o cigs, JUST vaping.. u wont WANT a cigarette..
Vaping tastes better... and when u taste a cig after having ONLY vaped for 3-4 weeks, the cigarette will taste like SH*T... Trust me... It's gross. It's like smoking on mushrooms...
It tastes like you've bundled-up a bunch of dried-up leaves, rolled them in a piece of paper, lit them on fire, and inhaled it. lol. U wont love it, trust me. So, just... Stop. K?

Hope I've helped in SOME way. &, I really do hope that you'll enjoy your new & exciting vaping journey. Have fun!

Wow, Plumes. 91...you have my attention! Just looking through posts tryimg to figure out why I still cave to cravings. Nothing like direct, no nonsense tell it like it is advice to wake someone up. Loved it!!! I have read hundreds and hundreds of posts on here over the last month, and I can honestly say your words resonated with me in a way nothing else has. You're right...whining and wishing aren't going to produce results. Only STOPPING will. Thank you. I'm now throwing out my remaining cigs and I'll read this post everytime I need a kick in the backside to keep me going :)

Indeed! Thank you for your reply, it has definitely given me some "food for thought". I'm using a Kanger nano with 0.5, so I think I may see if I can get a mix of 9mg. Though, I must admit since my post, my cravings have subsided.
Now, it's time to give up the two cigs a day. If I have to up my nic to get past those two times a day when I think I need a cig (even though when I do it tastes gross), that will be ok....
The throat hit isn't as big a deal to me as the feeling of the nic, so what your saying makes total sense (nic rush). I am taking vaping seriously, I actually really enjoy it more than cigs, so perhaps giving up the two a day isnt such a big deal after all
