4 years in, now what.... (cartomizer woes)

I have been vaping now for over 4 years. Have had 1 (count 'em, ONE) cigarette during that time, 3 years ago on the day my mother passed away. I hated it, and never touched one again. Hate the smell, hate the mess, yadda yadda yadda....

I have tried a variety of equipment and juices over the years. Early on I settled on one flavor (cuban cigar) and have stuck to that. I was a loyal kr808 user for a large percentage of this time, but several months ago I decided to try the eGo batteries and absolutely LOVE them! No need for a pass-through, a stock of 4 eGo batteries and one charger kept me vaping and happy through a recent 10-day vacation in Vegas.

But cartomizers have been giving me trouble lately. I use the Boge 510 cartos, and have always hated the initial filling of a new one. The fiber is packed tightly (which ultimately is probably a good thing) and doesn't suck the juice up very well. If you don't fiddle with it (drip some in, jiggle to get it to soak in, drip some more, jiggle some more, and so on) and get it filled enough, then you try to use it, you will burn it up and it's basically ruined at that point. So the initial fill is crucial, in my opinion, and a bit of a pain.

But... if you do it right, a good carto will last several days, sometimes more than a week. However, lately I've had trouble with them clogging after a couple days. Now, to be fair, I have been using a "new" juice because my normal supplier has been out of my flavor/size/strength for quite some time. So that could be the cause of the clogging. But in any case, I need to get more than 2 days from a carto or I will go mad.

So I've been thinking about trying a tank or a clearomizer but I'm confused about what to get. I don't want to do a lot of fiddling, don't want to deal with leaking, etc. Is there any product out there that will resolve all my issues? One that is the be-all/end-all of solutions?

Feedback would be much appreciated! :)

Nic DIY will prolong your carto's life. I DIY flavorless nic and carto life is about a month or so (using Ressurector).

Edit: I am using the same nic in Evod with original head for 5 months and don't see any drop in performance.

Its funny, cuz I used to spill/knockover my ashtrays when I was smoking. Now I spill my e-juice from time to time. Still kinda messy.

There is no "perfect maintenance-free solution", but a clearo or tank with replaceable heads and good solid build quality, Pyrex glass materiel preferable (like the ProTank), is relatively hassle free and easy to use.

Yeah I knew I was asking for too much. :)

I'll do some research on the ProTank. Thanks for your response!

I use the iclear clearomizers which are a big positive difference in regards to carts. I too started about 4 years ago and was using cartomizers for quite some time. I have had good success with the clearomizers that you can rebuild like the iclears and evods.

Ive read a lot of good things about the evods, T3's and CE4's. I think if you get one of each and find your match you will get back to enjoying you vapes

I had the same trouble with one juice I had, problem was it was a dark color to get the flavor I wanted form an alternate vendor when my favored vendor stopped carrying the flavor. I switched flavors to a light colored one that was close and, it was fine. That said I do use a clearomizer because there is a local vape shop here that carries them and, they are very reasonable at 5.00 each or, 8.00 with a 5 mil bottle of liquid.

After using some Boge cartos on a fairly regular basis these past few weeks, I've discovered that they can clog up a bit after a couple of days, so I blow out the excess juice, top off, and can vape trouble free for a few more days.

The OP is absolutely right with the importance of filling them thoroughly and completely when starting. Learned that lesson the hard way.

I also use a lot of Protanks (cartos are for my morning vapes), and I get relatively trouble free vaping.

I don't know why EMDCCs have fallen out of fashion, Big honkin' carto, takes about 4ml of liquid (lasts you a long long time), has nice skirt to go over the ego threading, nice vape. the batting is down from top by about 1/4" so plenty of room to drip into. Batting is not overly tight either. If you do not like the rubber tips you can buy the special tips that go in there separately:

I too love the way carto tank vaps and got tired of the issues with them.

So now I vap on protank mini , mt3 and EVOD's. They are built identically (bottom feed and coils re the same except the tube on top of the coil which you can change out with your old one. So in essence, they are the same. [Such similer devices but different looks are as follows : MT4, EVOD, T32, T3, T3s, T4, X6S , REM, V2 , KWX6 , X9 Protank, Protank 2, Protankmini, KWX5, etc. ].

See video here for any leaking issues you may encounter : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diasQUcxQkI And look at some EVOD reviews.

Any ways, you may never encounter any problems. Order one with a few extra heads(coils). Give that a try.

I think this will solve most your problems as it did for me.

Cheers.

I like the EMDCC's a lot, but they do go bad after a while, and the fluid level varies and they need to be topped up fairly often (a few times a day).

With an EVOD or similar device, you fill it once (maybe twice) per day, and it vapes pretty much the same every time you take a puff.

Now if only the clearos had a nice flat tip like the EMDCC!

I am 3-4 years in too and just ordered my first clearomizers and dual coil cartos. My last step in technology was from attys to cartos and a VV mod. I am sick of cartos and there seems to be some cool stuff out there. I figure dual coil and bottom coil mods should give a different vape and now they hold more juice with the tanks. I pop into this forum every 6 months to see what's been invented.

Wow congrats on 4 yrs not smoking!!!!! What a milestone! I use cartos mostly but have some clearos I like too. I just tried this clearo and even tho it has short wicks, it works great, does need filling very often tho. Kanger eSmart CE4 1.3ml Clearomizers Size of carto with drip tip on it. It works great so far. bnrk
