I went into my local vape shop, and told one of the guys there that from what I could I tell, my K101 seems to hit harder than my 4Nine clone. He told me that it was IMPERATIVE that i use button-top batteries on the mod, and that I need an atty with an adjustable center pin. The reason, he said, was because he had seen someone's authentic 4Nine explode because their flat-top battery had too much space between the atty pin and the top of the battery, causing a spark.

Clearly, I was concerned. I've been using a vtc4, and a smok Caterpillar rda. According to my friend at the vape shop, a recipe for a perfect storm.

BUT. The more I sit and think about it, i don't think any reviewer I watched before purchasing the mod said, that without a doubt, you need button-tops and adjustable pin attys. My center pin on my atty sticks out from the top cap, and it fires, so it's clearly making connection.

My biggest concern is safety. Has anyone heard anything like this? Or is my buddy at the vape shop misinformed?

You do know NOT to listen to that Guy EVER again I hope?

Now, it will depend on your Atty in use. I have Both and NEED Both.
Short 510 - almost flush to recessed - BUTTON TOP
Longer 510 - extends below top ring - FLAT TOP

Atty with Recessed Center Pin - DO NOT USE!!!!!!!!!!
This is where the BOOM Comes in. In Fact, this is the #1 Cause of 4Nine Magnet switch Failures.

Original 4Nine had no Delrin piece under the hybrid cap. This made for a dangerous Mod. Button tops were the only safe choice.
All Newer 4Nines have the Delrin ring under the top Cap. This protects the Battery from shorting against the Top cap.

Sparks? Sparks ignite Gasses.
If your battery is gassing - it is already to late - toss and run!!!!!!

Vape safe and enjoy :vapor:

so, with my attys (tobh clone, tugboat clone, smok caterpillar) i can feel that the pin is protruding past the delrin insulator ring, but not by much. flat tops still ok?

Would not hurt to have Both. You never know when you may pick up something that would need just the opposite of what you normally use.
As to which - It is a Test to fit for every top device when you have a NON adjustable Mod like the 4Nine.

If starting with Flat tops:
Confirm magnet direction and attach to Battery Negative
Place battery in tube and confirm bounce(Magnets repelling)
Spin Hybrid top onto Topper
Screw Topper onto 4Nine slowly watching for auto-firing condition
Once Snug(never over tighten) Check Switch throw.

Short to very short is OK!
Long Throw may require Button tops to take out the slack.

Make sense?:)

I ruined my 4Nine clone's magnets the day before yesterday. Put an atty on with a slightly recessed pin and when it shorted, as soon as I tried to test fire it, the magnets were toast.

When I first saw it I thought the design was great. Now I am not so sure. An atty in perfect working order that just came off one of my other mods tried to kill me and broke the 4Nine.

4nine is my current favorite mod. But I wanted to add something I found somewhat troubling. Because there is nothing between the battery and the 510 on the atty and the button throw is infinite, I ran into a a little issue. I'm mostly using my (authentic) 4nine with an (authentic) V1 Tugboat. A couple weeks ago my button suddenly became much much hotter than normal. Like a dummy, I decided to press the button again and my battery, an AW IMR, vented through the holes on the sides of the switch and the gasses actually burned my finger! The culprit? Over time, pressing the button actually pushed the pos. pin of the Tugboat up enough that the battery nipple contacted the outer (neg.) ring of the Tugboats 510 causing a dead short. Flawless is sending me a new insulator because mine is now leaking. Anyhoo I just wanted to share my experience and obviously I'll be checking my connections very often!
