Little over a week ago while I was cooking dinner and waiting on hubby to get home, the weather and phone alarm went crazy with Tornado warnings. Crazy me turns on the tv to see the weather man shouting “get to your safe space now”.
Well less than 5 minutes, I had the kid, dog, 2 helmets and blankets along with phone and of course a mod, ejuice and spare batteries, tuck nicely in the basement closet.
I now have a little bag hanging on the door with vape stuff.

Does anyone else have anything ready for a 5 min. Warning?

Just extra toilet paper. I’m old though. Priorities and internal organs shift.

I do not, but I'm not in a tornado prone area. The only time we've felt threatened by forces of nature was ahead of Hurricane Matthew in 2016. We made the decision to go somewhere else first thing one morning and were gone by mid-afternoon, with two cars full of stuff, including all my mods.

Lost 95% in 2008 hurricane ike,,, now most of my stuff including clothes lives in 2backpacks..i am in backpack bugout mode.... To the point I bought a SUV (again) &gave my BMW to a friend

SUV is "hotel" on wheels,, we like to camp, never owned a tent until about 2 years ago,,, now we don't need a tent again.. Our camp gear fits in 1large Rubbermaid bin,,, and is also the perfect set up for post hurricane days -been there,,, done that

Well I'm glad you weren't part of that 95%..
Me too :)... Hurricane people these days get all kinds of help,,, in 2008 the banks, stock market were collapsing,,, FEMA wouldn't /couldn't even help, -we had top of the line + more insurance than anyone should need,,, -it took 4years to get paid, and we were the 2nd family in our area to get paid.

Best advice I have is get your pic, , (yeah alllll of them) into digital format - ours are on 2usb sticks & the cloud,,, everytime my son has pics of his kids on facebook I send them to our clouds (amazon prime app is pretty cool about making your big screen TV into digital photo frames) you can spend several hours doing this yourself or send your photos off to a service ----tip... Really sort your photos for ones that make those people look their best,, that way you have more room for the not so good but only pic we have of Uncle Bob. Type pics. -1 of the USB sticks was sent to our son,,, so it a good Marking point, -he knows we don't have any more pics before this point in time

Next take photos of your important paperwork,,, birth certs, marriage lic,, house deed/titles, car titles,, you may want a screenshot of any financial services so you don't brain fart the company name /account -you may not want this one? ?? (all hard copies are in fireproof envelope thing with Crypto currency keys + jewelry )

We do not have loans,, but if you do,, make sure you have account info for everything..

Next find backpack /bag that everything can fit into,,, imagine if your house was on fire,,, you want to grab 1bag and go

The house fire taught me meds, pets, and vapes. In that order, I mean I'm not totally heartless. I would MOURNE the vapes, but they are like, replaceable. Well some of them.

Hmm. This is getting me thinking. Perhaps rather than a vape closet, I need a vape hole. where I can bury my backups. I'm mostly kidding. I think.

We get tornadoes in this area but, for some reason, they always go around my town. I guess it's not smart but I don't even go to the basement during a warning.

Lately, I've been assembling a "zombie apocalypse" kit with emergency survival stuff. Usual stuff like waterproof matches, space blanket, lighters, flashlights, batteries, some dry food etc. I always carry a sleeping bag in my car. Not for long term, just for a few days.

I'm already bugged out.. So I have a BOH instead of a BOB. lol.

Biggest worries we have is losing our electricity. And I'm prepared for that at all times!

We do have the occasional landslide due to excessive rain sometimes, but we take care of the mountainside behind (above) the house to prevent serious issues, and we also try and keep our yard out of the road.

In the end, we are all gonna die. I'm just dying with all my toys.. lol

24 died this month here and it really scares me. So with that fresh in my mind, I went to our safe spot.

I try to keep my vape stash small,, it's also in my bug out bag. I literally can grab my 2 backpacks,,, fly nearly Anywhere and start a new life with everything I need.

Each car also has a small vape repair kit- everything was working as planned until I physically broke /wore out tanks and mods by accident while driving recently... To rectify that I am trying to put small squonker /dripper set ups in the cars,, no glass.

We get hurricanes. Much more than a 5 minute warning. If you're not prepared 5 minutes before it hits you then you're screwed.

Yeah hurricanes are definitely part of living on the Gulf Coast. I am glad you survived Ike. My parents live on Bolivar and Ike completely erased their house. Nothing but foundation left. A lot of their stuff was saved though because they hadn't sold their previous home yet so they were able to move a lot of stuff back like the "one of a kind", irreplaceable stuff. Now they just have their Bolivar home so I don't know what will happen with the "next" one.

I am in North East Houston so Rita, Ike, and Harvey only caused me power outages for a week or so, except Harvey which was only a few hours. Still I have 3/4" plywood cut for each window and board up when one is coming and I get the generator ready with plenty of gas.

Yeah they will always miss you ... until one doesn't.

A true "zombie apocalypse" or "SHTF" kit is not complete without a hand gun, a rifle, and LOTS of ammo. This isn't as important for local disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, etc. but in a complete collapse of society weapons will be king. You will need them to (or at least attempt to) prevent others with weapons from taking your food, water, and shelter.
