I've been reading so many posts on this site I must say I'm so confused on what to buy. I think I need a good recommendation from a veteran e-cig smoker. I want a cig that decent battery life with a good drag on it. I want to see vapor come out when I exhale. However I don't want one like the screwdriver even though it meets the criteria I think it's kind of bulky. I'd still like to let it hang out of my mouth. What should I get, and where's the best place to get it?

Sounds to me like you are looking for a 401. Best battery life for a super mini, autoswitch so you can go hands free and small enough to 'hang'. Although I do have to hang it in my teeth. I don't think any e-cig can hang on your lip the way you are used to but the 401 is pretty comfortable balanced in your teeth and you can hold it n your lips long enough to get a drag. The cart life is bad but most 401 users dip the exposed atomizer right in the liquid which I find is about 1 analogues worth. I would recommend either going to ruyandirect.com if you want to order from china or myfreedomsmokes in the US. Go to his forum in the suppliers area and get the code for wholesale pricing.

I'm a veteran of all of about a month, so take my experience for what its worth.
I started with the 401, its good and I still like it, takes some messing with, probably not a great choice as first ecig.
A week or so ago, I ordered a 901 atomizer and USB passthrough to try out the 901. WHOA, massive vapor and throat hit compared to the 401. Way better in my opinion.
Got a 510 yesterday, WOW, awesome so far, and from what I can read here, it will only get better as it breaks in.

There is pretty much universal love for the 510 and I can see why. I'd recommend 901 0r 510 as the first. Give it a chance to break in and some time for you to get used to the differences between ecigs and smoking cigarettes.

When all is said and done, any ecig is better than smoking tobacco. Any hassle is worth it.

Best of luck

John

I would suggest that you buy a 901 and a SD or JS or some other mod form factor. Use the 901 when you feel like you must dangle it from your mouth and use the SD/JS/etc... when you want to vape something that reliably delivers a satisfying experience. The SD is not as big as people think btw.

I have four dif models and I still prefer the 901. I do want to get a SD or Prodigy (if everyone loves it) because you will find that what you thought you wanted out of this isn't what you end up wanting. lol
You wont want it danging out of your mouth so much- you will find yourself trying to find will power to put it down. Maybe if you start with one that doesn't allow the pacifier-effect, you wont end up vaping allllll the time like most of us do.
I will recomend some US sellers I know to be reliable- if you want them PM me. If you want to wait to get it from China- its cheaper!:D

Oh, so you are one of those (stubborn analoge smokers) like we all were. With that being said. I would suggest to you to go with the 901. You can dangle it, pretend like it is a analoge between your fingers, have numerous colors and flashing lights that simulate an analoge. Parts and accessories are relatively easy to find.

THEN.....like the rest of us when you have your learning curve out of the way and want to update and try something new. Go for the manual batteries. I would suggest then the Dura-C, and of course the ultimate experience of a mod after that.

The main problem with the tube type vaporizers is the short battery life. When you are over the new toy syndrome, and are tired of having to carry around loads of batteries, all the charging time involved, and the cost of them, you will be ready for a mod.

Best of luck to you and welcome to ECF.

Take a look here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ion-newbies-pics-most-common-models-here.html you can then see pics of the most common models

Also, the screwdriver is not as "bulky" as you think. Take a look:

I have a screwdriver and it can be easily concealed. The Janty stick is even smaller and for the 1 week I have had it, has been tremendous.

EDIT: I want to add that I got my wife a 510 from Widows to replace her 901 about 5-6 days ago and I can't pry the thing out of her hand in order to update my review and compare it to the Janty stick.....:thumb:

wow, I didn't expect to get so many tips in such a short time. You guys have been so helpful. After seeing all of your considerations and reading so many posts on the forum I've made a decision. I decided to get a dse 901 starter kit for $36 with an extra auto battery, as well as a Joye 510 starter kit for $55 with an extra battery from esmokeyshack.com. Then I bought a 30 ml bottle of 18 mg marbro flavor totally wicked ejuice from pillbox38usa.com Someone mentioned that they had the best eliquid, and I wanted to get the best frist impression to my first vaping experience. I was considering Johnson's creek and cloud9 e-juice, but then I saw someone's post about there throat hurting. Is that still the case, because the totally wicked juice is pricy.

As others have stated, once you get past the "noob" stage you will come around to the better PV's: Screwdriver, Prodigy, GG, Janty Stick, etc., so you won't have to pay $15 for replacement battereis but instead pay $2 for a battery that will last 6-8 hours.

If you get a 901, however, I would get the new manual switch 901 instead of the auto switch type.

The 401 is a good ciggie , but i wouldn't recommend as a first purchase. Carts are small and fiddly to refill, a 901 is easier to use overall and parts are readily available.

After reading and taking a lot of advice on this forum, I started with (and still love) my M401 - but more than that, I would specifically recommend the intellicig Evolution.

For me, it provides the perfect all-round balance of battery life, throat hit, round-end, nice size (bigger than a ciggie, but not huge... but, importantly for me, not wider) and flavour.

I will agree that the carts are more fiddly than some others, but I read and watched the videos before it arrived and soon found my own best way of doing things. I have actually counted the 'puffs' from a cart and from a home-filled cart I get around 80+ fairly deep draws from it, so I wouldn't say that the cart life is too bad personally.

I know that generally people don't recommend it as a 'starter' ciggie, but, for me, it was (and is) the perfect one.

(PS The 510 is not for me as I don't particulrly like the manual switch and it loses flavour compared to the M401, plus it has a greater diameter and so I don't find it that comfortable in my mouth. I haven't tried the 901, but I don't like flat mouthpieces, so again, that's not for me)
