Has anyone noticed this difference in the Joye 510 attys? The 510's I use to get had the wick running through the coil like pictured labeled GOOD ATTY. The recent ones I got have the wick just laying on top of the coil labeled BAD ATTY and they suck. I have also had attys that the wick was in the coil but they never sandwiched it between the bridge and the nickel foam...it was just curled around under the bridge.

I think this is why these things are hit and miss when it comes to producing good vapor. I notice with the bad ones you dont get a good amount of vapor and always acts like a dry wick because there is less surface area touching the coil.

It seems to me the manufacturers have just gotten extremely lazy in this process. What do you think?

Sorry about the quicky drawing.

Ive had a few bad in the same batch and batches from several suppliers and the attys in the batches were identical. The ones I bought when I first started were great but now.......

I think this is the cause of the "Hey I just had 3 dead attys out of 5" syndrome. They are not really dead...just duds.

I am aware of the spinoffs also, but I dont think this is the case.

That's interesting. I've taken quite a few apart, and I don't think I've ever had one where the wick actually ran through the coil. The coil itself has been wrapped around a separate piece of material... and the wick has been stuck underneath or along side of the coil in the ceramic pot. Speaking only of Joye atties here.

The LR atties are a different beast and use a different construction method.

Your right Scottbee, I remember now some of my very first ones had separate wicks. At the time I thought it was just a last minute fix at the factory. It would make sense to do it that way from the manufacturing aspect of it, but if thats the case some idiot is not doing his job stuffing the coils. The top wick has nothing to transfer the liquid to. The ones with one continuous wick strand definitely work so much better.

I have tried to take pics of the good attys but its very hard to tell whats what looking down the tube without a lighted loupe...and I cant get myself to tear a perfect atty apart...yet.

How do they do it on the LR's?

Well put your meter on them. Around 2.1-2.3Ω and you'll know.
