I know that this topic has been addressed coutless times here, but I still don't feel like I know the answer. I've only been vaping for 12 days now, no analogs in that time at all. I love being able to sit in my home office vaping and working on my computer and not worry about having to step out for a smoke. 2 things I want to ask about:

1. 510 Batt life
2. Constant topping off

I have a 510 from Heaven Gifts and I really like it, but the battery life, as many pointed out stinks. I get maybe 40 min. from a charge with heavy vaping. I should be getting a PCC and USB passthough, and spare batts in a day or so.

With beers during a Bears game, I vape alot and right now with 2 batts, I get to the point where I can no longer sustain a charge. Once I get the passthough, it should be ok at home, but I fear that even 4 charged batts and a PCC won't get me through a long night out.

Are the bigger batts from TW really that good? Do they fit in a PCC or standard charger. What other alternative is there, the Protege?

My other question: why do I feel like I am constantly topping off my carts during heavy vaping? The top seems to get dried out even though there is juice in the bottom. Am I doing something wrong being a Noob?

Any mod that uses bigger batteries will provide what you're looking for.
I am going to recommend the Chuck because it rocks.

I have never tried the 510 mega batteries so I can't answer that one.

This question is answered in the thread that is linked in my signature below.

I recommend the blue foam as cartridge filler material.
Or you could try getting a 306 atomizer (compatible with the 510) and use it for dipping.

The mega batteries equal to about 1.5 to 1.75 times the normal battery life. They are also expensive. For the cost of getting 5 or so batteries you could get a nice mod. Additionally, the passthrough blows for the most part. The problem is the 10440 battery is constantly in a charge and de-charge cycle when in use. This renders the battery pretty useless fairly quickly IMO and requires you buy even more batteries.

As far as mod recommendations, if you are happy with 3.7v vapeing, stay with it. I'm under the opinion that you should only go to 5v or 6v if you are still left wanting more when vapeing at 3.7v. I think you'd have a hard time going wrong with a Protege, Chuck, Super T, Screwdriver, Silver Bullet or the like. Personally, I'd just go with the one that matches your preference of button placement, look, build material & price.

As far as the constant topping off goes....

I know when I first started it was with a 510 (Janty Dura) and I felt like I had to constantly top it off. If I got one 'weak' hit I'd instantly stop and add more liquid. What I ended up finding out the problems is usually one of two things:

1. Sometimes I could just take another drag or two and the vapor would come back and I'd get a lot more vapeing out of the cart before I had to top off. I even blow once or twice into the cart to move the juice around and that seems to help prolong the period of time between top offs.

--or--

2. The packing of cartridges among all models ranges from barely adequate to poor. I've noticed this as of late with 801 and 510 carts especially. When I open a new 510 cart I check the filling and see if it is too thick. If it is I pull it out, cut a little off and separate the remaining filling a little and stuff it back in.

I haven't tried the blue foam and spring mod to the 510 carts but I think it is worth a try....

I really like my Mega batteries.. but when I go out, I rely on the PCC. When I'm at the bar... I vape constantly, and heavily. Back when I used to smoke I'd always carry two packs with me, because I never wanted to run out.. and I get to most of my bars by boat (and had a habit of dropping packs in the lake!). Now I carry two PCC's. <shrug>

Generally speaking, when I've killed a battery in my 510, the one in the PCC is charged. With two PCC's.... I'm sure of it.

It may seem like a lot to carry... but back int he day I never minded carrying two packs of smokes and a Zippo.

2 drops generally gives me about 5 drags.
But then you have to consider that I take big huge monster seven second drags.

On my M401 automatic I get a maximum of 13 hits with 2 drops (based on one official count).
On my RN4081 manual I get less (too lazy to count).
I have noticed that drop size varies a lot depending on dropper and viscosity.

For that last thing see the straw mod:

There's another mod you should check out:

510, 901, 801 Box Mods

It can use your 510 attys and carts. The battery is 900mAh- which will last you a day (ymmv). The normal batt in the 510 is 150mAh, mega 280mAh. IOW, no need for a PCC - you get two batts.

You'll need a charging cord - usb to mini:
Amazon.com: Cables To Go - 27005 - 2M USB 2.0 A/Mini-B Cable (Black): Electronics

The mod has a charger chip built in so no need for a charger and the charging cord also doubles as a Passthrough. You'll need a usb wall plug (1amp is best) and a car plug is nice but not entirely necessary as long as your charged when you leave:

Amazon.com: New High Power Slim AC Wall Plug to 2 x 5V USB Adapter For: Everything Else

It puts out more vapor than anything I have - Janty Stick, Protege, 510.... Jay, the creator (original 'box mod' from which it is built was created by Nicowolf) may not be making many more.... If you get one and don't like it, PM me.

Thanks for all of the great info everyone! I guess it's a trial an error to find what works.

Since I'm still new to vaping (even though I love it!), my wife who doesn't smoke or vape, asked me a question: How do you know that the e-juice is safe?

I told her that I read a lot on this forum, and many people have been happily vaping for a long time. I was just hoping for some input from the experienced vapors here.
