I have been looking for a way to possibly clean my cartomizers (Joye 510). Do NOT boil them in water- they will melt!! I put them in a pan of boiling water on the stove (I saw this method for another type of cartomizer on YouTube). So, I thought I would try- I only had them in the boiling water for 2 minutes too. This doesn't work :(Any ideas??

The flushing method that I use is described in one of my two blogs. You can click on it over at the left under my username.

Boiling will shrink the filters inside and degrade the cartos, resulting in the funky taste much sooner. I boiled some of my cartos once and will never do that again. Regular hot tap water works fine when you use the 10mL syringe and rubber cone from Walmart. The syringe plunger flushes out the old juice, crud, and excess water, and the rubber cone holds the carto. Then let them dry by a fan for at least two days. Don't use alcohol, vinegar, or any other solvent, except for hot tap water.

OMG!!!! I will be sure to try this method- I went to your blogs and printed it out. Just so happens that I have one of these syringes with the cone- I bought it at Walmart thinking I could use it for my Lorran's flavorings when (and if) I'm ready to DIY! They're too big for the little flavoring bottles that I bought, so the pharmacist gave me tiny syringes and they work just like droppers.
Thank you!!! I will order a bunch more cartomizers to try out as I've just fried all 5 that I did have lol

Flushing out cartos that way has worked well for me! And it only takes a minute or so for each carto.

By the way, I have a defective carto that I used to do a drying test. I pulled out the filter, wet it real good, squeezed out the excess water, put it back into the carto still rolled up, and then put it in front of a fan. After 24 hours, the filter was still damp. After 48 hours, it was almost dry. I believe it was dry enough after 48 hours to go ahead and refill with juice, but when I flush out any of my cartos, I'll try to let them dry in front of a fan for 2½ to 3 days.

I would treat them the same way I would my atty. Fluch it with hot water to break down the juices. Soak it in rubbing alcohol for a day or two. Then just blow it out really good and let it sit in a place that has a lot of air movement for a few days. Make sure you get the highest acl % as you can. The higher the % the faster it will dry. The lower the % just means that there is more water in the mixture. Sometimes I dont even let them dry honestly. I just fill the atty with strait glycerin and blow it out. I will do this like 3 or 4 times and it usually flushes out any of the old juices... but thats not really cleaning it is it,lol.

It's hanging from a hook on a small rack at the end of an aisle, probably one aisle over from the first aid and rubbing alcohol supplies, in the pharmacy section. That rack contains various small supplies hanging from hooks. It's hanging on that rack. This 10mL syringe/rubber cone/measuring cup kit is sold as a tool to give children their liquid medicine.

I would definitely try deback's method next time. My first round I cleaned 3 cartos, and 2 attys by boiling. Attys are fine but the all 3 cartos' filler shrunk by a whole lot. Left to dry for 2.5 days and tested out with juice...blaaah.. still got water in it. I'm constantly pressing my vape button right now to let the hot atty "dry" out the water that's left. I should've read your blog sooner! I guess ruining 3 cartos isn't too bad.

You can't dry burn cartomizers. The filler will burn. Please see here for a discussion of the syringe method (not recommended).

OP mentioned the Joye 510 cartos; those are very different cartomizers, more like sealed atty/cart units, and they can't really be cleaned by traditional methods. However, it's not too hard to take off the plastic sleeve off of the atty and simply rinse out the filler. The problem with this method is that it may damage the atty. I found that the genuine Joyetech cartos do not last very long and even though the filler can be rinsed (after disassembling the unit); the atty doesn't respond well to cleaning (it's really hard to soak/dry burn it). It's very fragile.
