I'm thinking of making the jump to higher voltage. I'm currently vaping a TW Tornado so I have the equipment required to vape on a 510 PT if I'm not mistaken. My question to all of you is, what kind of differences can I expect in terms of the vapor production and flavor of my vapes? I was also wondering if I should invest in some HV atty's. I have the two 510 atty's that came with my Tornado and also recently ordered 4 more H20 atty's. Would these suffice at 5v? Also where is the cheapest and most reliable place to buy this 5v PT?

First you need to know that there are two different types of PT. Although USB begins at 5V, most USB ports can't supply the 2000-2500mA power draw of the 510 atomizer so most PTs have an in-line battery (usually at 3.7V 14400) that is constantly recharged so you are vaping at no more than the 4.2V of a freshly charged battery. Some PTs leave out the battery so you get whatever power is coming through your USB port directly, but in order to get "real" 5V, you'll need to make sure you have a power source that is giving you at least 2A.

As far as the best place? I believe the PureSmoker PT has some of the best build quality and uses high gauge wire for best performance, but it is pretty spendy, IMO. MadVapes.com has PTs with or without the inline battery for under $20, so that would be my recommendation.

Depends on your need and intended amount of use. I spent the bucks on the Rolls Royce of Pass thrus - the Puresmoker unit. I did it because I use a plug-in-the-wall USB supply (with enough amps - important!) and I vape on it all day long at my desk. So basically it's a primary device for me during the day. The PS unit will outlast a dozen of the cheaper units. The true 5v it delivers is perfect too.

Thanks Thulium and Quitter! Okay, let me see if I understand this correctly. It sounds like the Puresmoker PT is the way to go, I don't mind spending top dollar for top-of-the-line quality. But what I'm confused about is what Thulium said about most USB ports not giving off enough power to feed my 510 atty. So if I buy the Puresmoker PT and plug it into my laptop or say my xbox360 would I be getting true 5v? If so, should I invest in HV atty's or are my atty's good enough?

edit: is there something that I can plug into my laptop or xbox360 that I can then plug my PT into that would give me solid 5v vaping?

I was thinking of getting "Chucked" but if I could save a little money this way and get solid HV vaping then this would be the route for me.

"HV Attys" have extra resistance so that 6v or 7.4V will "feel" more like 5V. Using one with a PT is only going to further reduce the voltage, so you are better off with the standard atomizers in this case. What you might enjoy is actually a low resistance atomizer like the Magnum (1.5 ohm) or Fibonacci (1.618 ohm) atomizers.

As far as the power goes, as Quitter mentioned, if you're going to use a "straight through" like the PureSmoker PT or one from Madvapes, you really want to use a plug-in USB adapter or a portable power pack that is capable of putting out the power you're looking for. You can use the PT with your laptop or Xbox, but it'll be more like vaping at 3V.

Unless you have a good plan for the power supply like quitter suggested, you might be better off to consider a mod. If you like the PureSmoker design and are willing to pay a little extra, you might consider bumping up to a mod that does double-duty as a pass-through or simply using one with an in-line battery. You will be "limited" to voltage of the 3.7V battery, but those usually run around 4.2V so it really is a noticeable step up from a stock 510 battery.

That said, the MadVapes 5V 510 Manual USB Passthrough is only $15. I have one and I just tried using it on my Xbox 360--it works well, actually, but its closer to 4 volts than 5. In fact, I just switched the same atomizer from my Xhaler at 5V (also tried at 6V) and the PT was indistinguishable from using my DSE 905 Nomad at 3.7V--still a nice upgrade from stock batteries, but not quite "high voltage"

:) Thanks a bunch Thulium! I get it now and thanks for the info about the atty's. I guess if HV atty's make 5v feel like 3.7 then it should have the opposite effect when I throw a 1.5 ohm atty on my Tornado. Do you know where I can get some of those Magnum atty's? Thanks again for all the help.

They're extremely popular so Drew is currently out of stock, but Nhaler has them here: Low Resistance Magnum Atomizers
