The battery for my 510 lasted...oh I dunno...2 months of constant use? I'm quite pleased with it. It's my own fault for not looking into the battery thing way sooner. Thankfully I have enough normal 510 batteries to see me through so I'll survive. <grin> I looked locally too, and no luck, but that battery junction site is great. :)

DealExtreme sells them for $4.23 for a 2 pack with free shipping (however it might take up to a month to get them - china) but for that price it doesn't hurt to stock up DealExtreme: $4.23 Ultra Fire 10440 3.6V 500mAh 2Pack

DE basicly has THE best price on any Li-Ion battery anywhere (usually you get almost 2 for 1), but takes so long to ship, and don't believe the mAh printed on the side of the battery read the reviews .

10440's (AAA sized) are not available in a protected version so if you use them unplugged be careful not to over-discharge them, once they stop producing vapor recharge. If they are taken below about 2.5V they will probably not be able to be recharged. They should stop producing vapor at about 3V.

The 10440 lithium battery is also used in the e-cigar as well as the Janty Stick. DealExtreme is the cheapest source, but you can order them from many places like BatteryJuction, OnlyBatteries, etc. I doubt you will find rechargeable lithium batteries of any type except specialized battery packs in a retail store. Some idiot would be sure to stick them in his NiCad charger and burn down his house!

The reason for the inline battery in the passthrough is to allow it to be used on any USB port. The ones w/o the inline battery will try to pull 1-1 1/2 Amps from the USB power line, and most USB ports can't supply that much current. I would never plug a passthrough w/o an inline battery directly into a computer's USB port for fear of frying the computer! I use those only on a powered USB hub or my Kensington power pack.
