I have seen the 510 passthrough has a battery in between.

I was wondering if that can be used to power the 510 even if it is not connected to a USB.

If you also have any pros and cons about the item please let me know as I am considering of picking one up.

thank you in advance for you response.

I have no idea what the purpose of the battery is, but my best guess is that the 510 pulls more amperage than the USB really should be supplying, and as such has a battery inline that is charged while smoking, to offset the current draw.
What we need is an item that plugs into an outlet with a usb hole that is *not* a charger, but is instead a 5v USB plugged supply. Sure i can make one, I'm an amateur radio operator..but why aren't these made for people who would love to use a USB passthrough but are unwillng to bake their USB/motherboard with a passthrough? I have no doubt that a passthrough has stuck on somewhere and done this..heck i blew a front panel usb with an outboard USB drive which was designed to get all of its power from USB.
The fellow who makes a 1A (or greater) USB power supply capable of running passthroughs through is going to sell them...Until then i have to create my own...and that's more hassle than you'd think. UGH!

Getting back to your question...I'd love to hear the answer on this..my best guess is that the 510's atty is a real current hog and the passthrough is continuously charged/drained as its used.

That's precisely why. USB only supplies about 500ma. The attys can consume upwards of 1000, 1100ma.

Its just like a car. At idle the alternator cannot supply enough curren to power your headlights, wipers, heater blower, heated seats, radio etc. The battery supplies some current until engine RPM increases and can supply enough for demand and charge the battery as well.
