If you liked American Psycho, what did you think of The Machinist?

If you liked American Psycho, what did you think of The Machinist?

Good movie, overrated. Every actor who knows how to manipulate the media takes a role like that, it makes him seem more serious in the eyes of the academy who love it when you "transform" yourself and "sacrifice for your art". A good movie though, decent performance and just another in his string of underrated scripts chosen specifically to show everyone his range. Equilibrium, harsh times, rescue dawn, etc. He's one of the best at picking intelligent scripts, movies that fly under the radar and will be seen in the years to come as "good choices". That is till Nolan, the king titan of manipulative, lowest common denominator filmaking picked him to star as batman - he was awesome in batman begins for ex but clearly sucked in the dark knight why? cuz it was a crap script and he can't commit when he doesn't respect the script.

My fav actor...until his imitation of lincoln won him an oscar. joaquin deserved that oscar and u know it.

I will not dispute that. But in all fairness, I would take Bill Cutting any day over Lincoln, and Daniel Plainview over them both.

And I'll just say that his performance in lincoln was the first time I actually saw him as ddl doing a voice and pretending to be someone else...his weakest performance to date imo.

I will give you My Left Foot. Phenomenal. But, I was trying to keep it in the decade (thought Gangs is just barely outside). I hear ya on "the voice" and that is essentially why I dislike Bale in TDK. I was too distracted at the bad Clint Eastwood "I'm Batman" voice to take the whole thing seriously.

Nah, but I'll tell u exactly why he was bad in TDk - he's a smart guy and obviously saw it for what it was - a ruse, and you can't demote the guy for sleep-walking through a role he knew was just a backdrop to "fooling" the american public.
