Their page says they're all out of stock, completely. That suggests a somewhat serious problem with production... I'm not from the US, so I don't want to pre-order a possibly discontinued/unavailable product -- getting a refund from this far is almost impossible (e.g. BatteryJunction still owes me $52 after 5 months).

Anyway, I want to upgrade from my 3.6V Screwdriver MKII to a 5V ecig. I made a hackish 6V mod to my SD, but that's too much. I tested ~5V using a resistor with 510 adapter and it was the first time I had a flavor comparable to my first IntelliCig (401).

It seems there aren't many options for real 5V ecigs. GLV looks awful, but from the reviews I've seen it's probably the best 5V vape out there. I was really psyched about buying it this instant. :(

Does anybody know what's the situation in Great Lakes Vapor? What's the expected waiting time for a stock GLV-5 body? Any other 5V suggestions? BTW, I prefer 16340 batteries -- I have loads for my LED flashlights. :)

Thanks for your tips!

maniac, I'm not sure why you're not getting any responses but I'll give you one.
Every time I've gone to the GLV website over the last 3 months it always says that they're out of stock but people are buying them. I think it's probably that they sell them as fast as they can make them. A lot of these mods are made in garages and private outbuilding shops by a couple people. I build mine (not on the market yet) by myself.
I don't believe that they're out of business though. They just introduced a new model a little while ago. If the GLV is what you want go for it. It looks like a nice unit. I prefer a back button like the GLV has. I designed mine that way.

Interestingly, I can't post to the supplier forums. I wonder how are people supposed to post 15 useful replies, when they're a newcomer and just want to contact some suppliers. Weird policy.

I'm going to look for a different 5V ecig. Probably safer. Jay didn't reply to my PM from the morning. I'll check back anyway though.

Thank you both. If you think of good 5V alternatives, please drop me a line when you can.

I don't know why Jay did not respond but I do know that he is busy with his new baby and his new line of GLVS. Give the guy a chance, I own 4 glv's 1 5v, 1 3.7/6v and 2 of the new minis.

Jay makes a great product and the company is far from going out of business. He may make smaller batches and sell out faster but the company is SOLID!

Still if you do not trust it you can try the new Joker from VaprLife

the joker is out of stock also... 2 week wait at least.

glv is the best... worth the wait....

jay is always around. probably at school or work..

he is on ecf every day so i am sure you will get a response soon..

safeer than the glv? I doubt it but you can pay 170.00 for something that claims to be safer.. lol

good luck

Great, thanks for all your tips! I'll check out the alternatives, the "tunable" one could be nice.

I was so eager to get higher voltage that I made a 2x901 cigarette based on a light 2x18350/2x16340 LED flashlight body. No resistors, just two attys. Connected in series seems tuned into the "sweet spot" naturally. The higher current makes my liquid taste like 100x richer. It's really amazing. The light switch is the main on/off, but to facilitate easy/light clicking, I used a mouse micro switch too.

I'm ordering 901 male connectors so I can make attys easily replaceable. At the moment, I lightly soldered the wiring on them directly - not practical. However, the vapor production is amazing, from both "barrels". My old SD didn't produce half the amount (per atty) and I didn't even know how great my liquid's flavor was. I've always been using VG-based ECOpure RICH from IntelliCig. I tied several different brands of PG/VG juice, but none could compare. Now I'm even more excited about this liquid. So much difference in taste from a mere power-up.

Just wanted to share some of my tips and say what a great influence this place is. Two days registered and I already made my first homebrew power e-cig. :)
