I built a 5v mod a few months ago and has has worked flawlessly untill tonight. It stopped working, so I pulled it apart to check things out, everything looked fine. Tested the batts, they were good. I put the batts back in and it worked, then I noticed the reg was a little warm, so I let it set for a minute. When I checked it again the reg was smoking. Everything still worked but the only way to cool the reg is to pull the batts. Has this happened to anyone else? Is my reg done? Should I scrap it and start over?

I'd say any component (except an atomizer coil) that smokes is done.

Yeah that IS a good point as far as electrical components go.

But the atty doesn't "smoke" remember... it "vapes". Wooo that was close, the FDA was almost all over us on that one, oh wait they already are. Doh!

Anytime anything is smoking, stop using the device immediately! You don't want to risk a catastrophic battery failure. Remove the batteries and let it cool off for a while. Then check for loose wires, short circuits, etc.

I've never heard of that happening, but I'm new here. What regulator did you use? Maybe it can't handle the current. How did you have it wired?
