5V regulators work about half the time (Help)

I built a couple of 5V 2AA (14500) boxes with madvapes regulators and they work so oddly, about half the time. They can work all day or for days and then stop. I let it sit overnight or for days and go back and the start working. Oddest thing. The regulator pin

I cannot think what it might be: Moisture which then dries up?

Battery voltage/amperage?

I vaped on one all night and this morning? Dead...no 5v output. I let it sit for 4-5 hours and go back and pick it up and it works fine.

Love these boxes as the have kick like a mule and then it makes it hard to go back to 3.7.

Any suggestions? Thanks

I would guess heat is your problem. Is it cramped in the box, or provided with a heatsink?
