The Rat shack 7805 is rated @ a max 1 amp input. Not enough really for vaping at 5 volts. Your switch should be on the input side of the reg so it is not always on. That would cut down on the heat a bit but linear regs get hot not much you can do about it besides put a big ... heat sink on it. You didnt say what your powering it with. Drop out voltage might be why it is putting out 3.5 volts. That reg has a big drop out, which in english means your going to have to put about 7 volts into it to get 5 volts out of it.

Just to let people know......do not know, do not use this regulator. This regulator gets way to hot, hot enough to melt the case just after taking a couple hits. The voltage starts out around 4.8ish but drops dramatically once getting hot and that is so fast. No heat sink could help this, as the heat is to much.
Most folks who have taken the time to actually to read a few posts already know this.

Just so you know I have read SEVERAL POSTS. I have seen people use the 7805 and have same type problems and some use them and, it gets hot but they use it. I have been building and trying many mods and figured rat shack is is right across the street and I would try it and get my own experience. So it seems I shouldnt bother with a thread that someone else has tried. I am here to learn, give, and share ideas and I believe most of us are.
