I usually use nail clippers to cut the end of the ribbon at a sharp angle when I'm using it with devices that have holes in the post for the wire. Works great for getting it through the tiny holes, but also works great for accidentally stabbing yourself in the fingers with sharp wire.

Haha I love it. Just the other day I was building a coil with some 32 gauge round wire and noticed I had the end of it stuck in my fingertip. So I pulled my finger away and found it had gone in like 1/8" or more. Still didn't hurt or bleed, but it was surprising.

I will probably try your technique with my .8 ribbon, except I will nip off the very end that is super pointy and sharp.

I just did build today with .8 ribbon wire with regular silica (Ordered EkoWool). On my trident, I took nuts completely out and set ribbon wire. It was surprised that I was able to flat down my ribbon wires. It was tight but as I tighten my screws, wires make flat contact with post. Help this helps! BTW, wow, I can tell the difference with ribbon wire. NIC delivery is far greater than my 28 kanthal. After few puffs, I was already Nic'ed out. I noticed better flavor also.
