So I upgraded a couple weeks ago to a K100 mechanical mod with IGO-L. The local store built the wick for me. I was impressed in the store with the first puff. I couldn't believe how hard the 6g nicotine hit. So I decided to order some 32g kanthal and 3mm silica wick to learn how to build my own. After struggling with this for a week I finally got it just about right last night. Way too picky is all I kept thinking. Haven't had a chance to go back to the local store to ask what they used.
So I ended up ordering ribbon wire and ekowool from kidneypuncher.com. Got the package today and boiled the wick for 15 minutes like the website says. Finally the ekowool dried out and I just rolled the coil. I was surprised at how easy the coil was to roll. Really easy to space and really easy to screw down on the IGO-L.
Next up I fired up the coil with a drop of juice on it. What the??? Did I just get lucky? Dry burned the wick and to my joy all the coils (4) lit up evenly. I wasn't able to get that with the Kanthal after using up about 3 feet of silica. So for me the ribbon made the coil so much easier to roll. As a bonus I just got a package from Velvet Cloud Vapors. While I waited for the ekowool to boil I was hitting the vape like a madman to make sure I knew the taste of the new juice. So hitting the new ribbon coil on ekowool, there was a difference. Very slight, but enough to say that whatever I did, this setup is much better than the kanthal and silica wick I ordered somewhere else.
Originally I tried the wick as a single piece, folding over, and tripling over. It never quite sucked up the juice right. But this ekowool as a single piece with a little tail sitting on the deck sucks the juice right up. I am surprised at how much better this works now. So yeah I read that ribbon is a fad, but compared to the round wire, there is no comparison. The taste is a bit more clean, and more clouds.
