I wanted to get some 801 attys for HV dripping, so I ordered an 801 out of the classifieds. When I got it, one of the two batteries was DOA.

Ordered 8 attys and an adaptor to fit the HV, and all was well for a few weeks, until I decided it was time to do a little cleaning.

Cleaned the adaptor w/alcohol without knowing that it would ruin the adaptor and cause attys to short out. I thought we were supposed to clean the threads occasionally. Apparently not always a good idea.

Of course, I ruined a bunch of attys before I realized what was happening. Some of them hadn't even been used yet.

So yesterday, I put my last remaining living 801 atty on the one working 801 battery, and smoke starts coming out from around the LED light.

Is it my imagination or am I just not cut out for 801s?

sent you back a pm with the fix.

basically push out the center post of the adapter and make sure the 2 washers that are made out of silicon are where they should be sitting. one washer at each end of the metal rod. If they slip down towards the center of the meatl post you get a short that blows your attys. the middle center post pushed out of the adapter easily.

I blew over 10 attys before knowing what was going on..

Nerf has made some good connectors too that dont have this problem..

I am glad to know that I'm not the only one that took awhile to catch on to what was happening.

I tried this fix, and then I put it on a multimeter. What I've been told in another thread was that there should be no contunity if I put a probe on each end so the meter should read zero. I'm getting 2.6, so unless I misunderstood the no contunity part, I don't think this worked. I think I may have actually damaged the silicone.

Thanks for the help, though. :)

Edit: I may have spoken too soon - when I put the probes together, it should be zero and I'm getting 2.6 that way, too, so maybe this did work. I'm gonna dig around and see if I can find one more sacrificial atty to try.

did you find the washer was in the middle when you took it apart?

yes i meant 510.

when someone says 801 and uses the word HV in the same post I cant tell if its a 801 ecig or the atty being referred to is why I asked.

if you put the 2 probes together using continuity ohms settings you should see a reading. If you arent showing a reading something is wrong and your meter isnt set right or isnt functioning correctly.

you would place 1 proble on the center post of one end of the adapter and the other probe on the opostite end of the adapter on the threaded portion. if you see a reading you are getting a short. it should be reading zero showing there is no short.

I did find two washers together in the middle, and it's working again!:thumbs::thumbs:

Now if only we could regenrate attys. Between the two of us, we've lost around $150 in attys. Ugh

I don't know what the deal is w/me and the multimeter stuff, but for some reason I can't get how this thing works through my head. Wonder where I can get a copy of Multimeters for Dummies?

Thanks for helping, Doots!
