The only model I had ever used was the 510 that I started with but very quickly got tired of switching batteries. I then got on the modders forum and found out how to build a nicostick(box mod) and really like it alot. The 510 with the bigger battery behind it makes it a totally different pv to me. I was curious though about the other models so I ordered a couple 801 attys and some cartridges to use on an 801 box mod that I built yesterday. The 801 seems to hit a little harder and produce more vapor than the 510 using the same parts including a 14500 battery. I am liking the 801 quite a bit. The larger cartridge is quite a bonus. It almost seems like the 801 uses more liquid or maybe it uses it faster. It could just be my imagination. Anyway, just a positive experience that I thought I would share. I am curious though if others who have mods prefer the 801,901,or 510 with the larger battery.

I too started with a 510, and later built a stick using a 901 atty as the heart of the beast... The reason I chose to build a 901 stick was because I didn't want to cannibalize any of my 510 batteries, and I could get a DC connector that fit a 901 atty at Radio Shack... I have to say, I prefer the vapor output of the 901 stick to the 510 cig... I've since built a stick with a 510 connector, but I still prefer the 901...

Though this could be due to the fact that the 510 attys I have are kinda old, and past their peak performance... Lately, I've been using 306 attys with the stick (and the 510 batteries) for dripping... Maybe I'll buy some new 510 attys for an "apples to apples" comparison.

I'm also gonna build a 4081 stick using the connector from a dead 901 atty... That one's gonna be high-powered, though (2 x 3.7V batteries).

It's a tough choice. I was an 801 only guy for a long time until I got the 510. The 801 tastes significantly better but I always grab the 510 now. I think it's because the 510 throat hit satisfies my urge to burn my throat like I did on cigs. Ever since I started with the 510, I haven't cheated with cigs like I used to do once a week on the 801.

My Janty Stick was an 801. I sold it after I got my 510. I thought the 510 was much better.

Of course, running on my Chuck, my 510 is like a 510 on steroids. If I switch batteries and run at 6v, it's like a mutant 510 on steroids.

One day I'll try a 901, but that will have to wait until after I am done stocking up on 510 supplies.

I've used a 510 from the start and recently bought a Janty Stick. Was really excited about the bigger batt and especially the built in USB pass thru!! Of course the JS uses an 801 atty/cart system which I had never worked with. I will tell you that I've found the 801 system dissatisfying in every aspect. I had bad wicking issues and have spent weeks on cart mods, different atty's (high & low bridge), juices etc etc etc. I finally found the blue foam mod works great for wicking and solved that issue for me. But I'm totally confused on why people like this system! The biggest thing to me is loss of flavor. I thought maybe it was just me so I did a test.

I loaded up a 510 cart of a DIY flavor I have as well as an 801 with the exact same flavor. Both the JS and the 50 had clean atty's and full batts. The 801 gave the slightest hint of flavor. The 510 gave the full flavor. I mean the difference was significant!! I did the same thing with dripping on both with the same result. BTW this result is the same with any juice I use.

So I handed both units over to a compatriot and had him do the same test and I didn't lead or prompt him in any way. I just said vape each of these and tell me what you think. His comments were exactly like mine. The 801/JS had the same amount of vapor (maybe a bit less) and nearly no flavor. He hit the 510 and said "wow, great flavor!) He alternated both a few times. I then did the test on one more person and again, same results. Ithought maybe it was the atty so I switched to my high bridge one from RMV and no change.

Bottom line is that I really am not feeling the 801 system. I don't think I'm doing anything wrong with the 801. The vapor output is okay and think I'm giving it the full performance it's capable of. I'm barely using my Janty Stick because of it. I'm praying that Janty will get thier 510 adaptor for the JS done and I can enjoy the convenience (batt & usb) of the JS and enjoy the vape & flavor!!

    Only one man's observations here.

Hittman - It's a huge thread and will take some time to get through but you can scan it:

    http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cartridge-mods/27723-eheim-filterpad-mod.html

The cliff's notes is to buy the blue foam at PetSmart. It's an aquarium filter material. You then cut it to just bigger than the size of the 801 cart. The key for success is to make it the same depth (1.1") and jst use the thickness the sheet comes in. Then you cut it to about 1/8" wider than the cart. I will say that it's THE only cart mod I've done with the 801 that truly works. I've tried PTB (which works great in a 510), brass screen (total failure for me and really hard to get right), PTB plug, etc.

Read through the thread all the way because the original concept seems to get refined as the thread developed.

Thanks Quitter, I will definitely check it out. I don't know if this could be the case or not but I was wondering if the 801 vapes better on the 14500 battery than the 10440 battery used in the janty stick because of the discharge rate. Just an idea because besides the wicking, I am really liking the 801 on my box mod with the 14500. Just a thought.

510 man for months then got an 801 mod and loved it, then made the 510 nicostick as well, and went back and forth until I broke out a new 510 atty. The 510 nicostick is da bomb but I love the cart size of the 801. In all actuality though both with new atty and exact same batts it is very hard to distinguish between vapor and throat hit.(just a different taste really)

the 14500 batt is 3 times the size of the 10440 and makes a big difference

Happily, that is kinda what I thought too about mostly just noticing a different taste. It does seem to get a thicker vapor with the 801 though or maybe it just seems like it.
yeah maybe thicker on the intake.............seems to be same monstrous cloud on the outside though.

I retired my 510 atty after 3 months and was amazed what new one could do. So I ran out and bought 25 new ones. I intend to toss them at least once a month. It's worth it

I have been using the same two for 4-5 months and they seem to still work well on the 510. I do have two spares, maybe I should break one out to see what you are talking about. I know I should have more spares but I have been stocking up on liquid. I am going to start buying extra 510 and 801 attys pretty soon though.

My first e-cig was the NJoy NCig (RN4072) which is an 801 clone I guess. I use 801 carts on it.

I also have a 510 and use them both every day.

Although the 510 is good if you want to be discreet, I still like the flavor and hit of the NCig better. I primarily use the 510 when I want to vape another flavor than my all-day juice.

On the Silver Bullet, the NCig works very well. The bigger cart, combined with the enormous battery capacity of the SB is a winning combination.

When I drop a couple of 123 disposable batteries in the SB for a 6V vape, there is no comparison. To me the 510 just "burns" the juice while the NCig will take the top of your head off!!!

There has been some discussion about the newer "high bridge" 801 attys not working as well as the original "low bridge" ones. There is supposed to be a slightly shorter cart that works well with the high bridge.

AFAIK, all RN4072 atomizers are of the low bridge type and will work with 801 batteries & carts.

I have been thinking about getting a high volt mod. I have pretty much narrowed it down to a prodigy or silver bullet. I can't decide and can probably only afford one. Also, nhaler is supposed to be coming out with a high volt mod and I have been waiting to see that one and hear the reviews before I buy anything. It is sometimes hard to wait. I know I like the 510 and 801 on the box mods with the 14500 batteries but I think I might get parts to make a couple 5v mods to see how I like them. I would bet that the SB with the 18650 probably vapes different than the mods with the 14500. I noticed a huge difference between the 510 passthrough with the 10440 behind it and the box mod with the 14500. I only have the low bridge 801 attys so I don't know anything about the others.

Hittman, I use the 801 and have found that the spring mod works best on the 801 cartridge. I changed it a little bit by putting the spring in alone and then using some filler to cover the spring up. The 801 with high voltage is a juice hog, but the plus is that the juice is turned into vapor.

PS I use the Prodigy and can't say anything bad about that mod.

Can anyone link me to a good resource on how to make a 901 nicostick? I would love to have one for home/non-social use, but keep the normal 901's around for going out to bars and what-not. Eventually I will be getting a prodigy, this will just be tell I can afford the $130 price tag, lol.

After you have built your own nicostick I doubt you will want to drop $140 on something else. The Box Mods work beautifully. and are inexpensive compared to the commercial mods.

I no longer have any normal e-cigs left. Broke them all for the connectors.

I mostly use a 510 and the battery for that would not even last one evening at a bar.

    Cheers

Cybervex, you are correct. I have not bought any 510 or 801 batteries since I built my first nicostick. It seems just a little silly to spend $140 on something else when the mods you make seem to work just as well. I just built my first flashlight mod with a single 18500 1600mah battery. I will be curious to see how long this battery lasts. My boxes just have 14500 900mah batteries. I just posted a couple pictures in the battery mod forum if you would like to see it. By the way, I really like the work that you do and thought the box with the charger was awesome.
