An 85 year old friend has just come out of acute respiratory unit after a bout of pneumonia .
Thought I would try and steer her towards vaping.
She admits to smoking 6 to 10 a day , which by my calculations = just under a pack a day .
She has really bad arthritis and can't use her hands very well.
I was thinking a MTL device. Probably a pen or stick but it would need a good size fire button.
I use a little vaporesso Solo when I'm out and about. It has a tiny fire button so would not be suitable .
I don't want to spend a lot of money as she might reject the thing anyway.

Any suggestions????

Yes, this may be a situation where initial ease of use that pods offer may be helpful. There are a fair number that aren't too expensive, although I don't have much experience with pod mods, but I'm sure someone with more experience will chime in. I have heard both good and bad things about the Aspire dolphin and penguin, but given age and smoking, you could certainly start with something small, almost a cigalike. I liked my Vaptio C-flat pod mod for a vape, although I'm not sure how easy it is to get supplies unless ordering direct from Vaptico and there may be a bit of a wait, as it's Chinese New year. I'd probably get something that can be refilled, if you think that your elderly smoker will do okay with that process. If not, this might be one of the few times that I'd suggest a cigalike, possibly the Juul, depending on if that might be too much nic for her. If close to a pack a day, I could see it working though, and being sort of... flat, price wise, compared to buying storebought cigarettes. Start out that high does tend to "lock" one into very high juices, however. Although if she is successful to start and then wants a more powerful setup, she will be getting more vapor per puff, and hence, will likely not need as high a nicotine level.

Best of luck deciding! I hope you are able to help her.

Thanks Anna
I'm guessing I'll need to fill it for her.
I've never seen anyone with such bad arthritis in their fingers.
I'm thinking the shape and design might be more relevant than other factors.
If she can't hold it , she just won't use it.
She probably won't use it anyway I just feel if she has one kicking about she may give it a try from time to time.
That's kinda how I made the switch.
Had a Vype pen , hardly used it at all for months.

I hate to say this but switching at 85 might be a bit like closing the barn door after the horses have all ran away, but with arthritic hands, weight may also be a consideration as well as size and ease of use. So as much as I hate to recommend them, a cig-a-like may be in order.

These are what the wife and I used originally to quit smoking before we upgraded to better stuff, but it worked for us. GreenSmartLiving | Starter Kits | They are cheap, and fire based on suction, not a button. So very easy to use. They don't make huge clouds but they make enough for a switch. The cartos can be refiled with some other liquid if you pry open the mouthpiece, or you can just replace them.

Try try try to get her support and agreement ahead of time even if it takes a few conversations. That will improve your chance of success. Then don't buy anything fancy and expensive because it's not necessary and takes the pressure off. Less flavoring is better than more flavoring in the beginning. If she is clinging to her cigarettes may be argue she's a grownup and can have one whenever she wants one and just vape and vape some more and dont stop vaping and may be she'll discover she's smoking fewer cigarettes or none without any will power. Today if you gave me a magic pill that made me immune to the health problems of cigarettes and offered me all the cigs I wanted for free I'd still rather vape because it's a superior experience. A lot of people here could say the same. Then again, 85 and still smoking? Tough giirl.

A career in elder care beckons .
Been there. Done that. Twice.

Trust me--trying something new is not on an 85-year old's mind. If it is, great. If not, get out of the way.
