So tonight I went to vape my vamo...nothing. Checked my battery..3.9 volts...checked my ohms...9.9

I have heard the 510 connection was garbage on the vamo, but I have been careful to not over tighten my tanks since day 1. I wondered how the connection became bad even after being so careful.

I took off my tank, put it on my mechanical back up and vaped. Nothing. Checked the battery on my multimeter, 4.1 volts. Tried a different tank on my vamo and SUCCESS!

So I went back to the original tank with the 9.9 ohm reading..took it apart, cleaned it, changed the wick and vamo success again!

I appear to have dodged the vamo 9.9 ohm curse...for now at least :)

I often wonder why there are so many complaints about the Vamo compared to other PV's. They all have a similar setup with a gasket insulating the center pin. I don't think any other PV has less of a problem. I think there are just more Vamo owners by comparison.

I mean, how can another PV not have the same problem with a rubber gasket being compressed? Do a lot of them have solid insulators? That would be nice! Can I have some, please? :p

By the way... I'm glad you dodged the bullet!

Thanks! Yeah I wondered the same thing as well. Maybe there's just that many vamo owners out there so you hear a lot about the problems. I mean, to me its common sense to not over tighten anything to avoid damage. I really like my vamo a lot. I hope to get some good use out of it. Just ordered some efest 18350's to run it in shorty mode. But with the panasonic 18650's I run in it, I don't think its to big. I actually like big PVs. Good conversation starter :D

You can search this site and find issues people have had with every PV.

Must have been such relief lol...I'm paranoid about over tightening mine

I thought it was a goner... that's for sure...lol

I'm glad I didn't just start messing with the vamo. I was smart and first tried the tank on my back up, then checked the volts of the battery in my backup when it still didn't fire. Then I knew it was the tank itself. :toast:

9.9 ohm reading on a vamo isn't necessarily the vamo's 510 connection, just means its an open circuit somewhere. Sure it could be the vamo's 510 female connector, but also the tank's male connector or the coil itself. The tank didn't work on your other mod either .... not a vamo issue.

Correct. a 9.9 ohm reading could be a number of issues. I found out rather quickly it was not a vamo issue (thankfully!). I just knew from reading through the vamo related threads 9.9 ohms is a sign the 510 connector could be bad. After trying my nova on my backup to no avail, and a different tank worked on my vamo, I knew my issue was tank related. It was a bad coil. After replacing the coil, I was back in business. :vapor:

I'm also careful to not over-tighten, but I can't believe how many people want to really cinch things down regardless of whether its and atty on a Vamo or a garden-hose on a water-bib...

Crazy right! The only thing I over tighten is the caps to bottles of pepsi. Don't really know why. It's just what I do...lol

My B&M owner actually made me promise him I would not over-tighten on the 510 threads, saying he could not take it back if I damaged it (makes sense to me). Reading this thread, I just slightly unscrewed my Protank! :?:

Are you using a protank on a vamo? I may be looking to grab a protank soon. If so, how does it compare to a nova in your opinion? I heard the vape on the protank is airy and cool. I prefer warmer vape and a tighter draw, so not sure the protank is for me.

A problem I've seen with vamos is attys self-tighten themselves! I never crank it on hard, but theres been quite a few times I actually needed pliers to remove a viva or protank screwed on it. Think it has to do with the big PWM it uses, perhaps micro-vibrating attys tighter. Never had this problem with mechs.

The protank is even more airy on the vamo, you cant put the ego threaded ring that help a bit on the airy issue,, my protank is used on my twist only as a last resource,, get some evods they are awesome on the vamo,, and vivi novas

You could try one of these Tank Airflow Controller to take care of the airy draw. This thing can be adjusted to actually block all air going into the atomizer. It won't help the cool vape though, but I really don't own a Protank, so I don't know how cool a vape it really has.

Note that the adapter diameter is 19.61mm and it'll add a little weight to your setup. Personally, I find the little extra weight to actually balance my Vamos out.

Looking at photos of Protanks on Vamos, it's diameter may be close to the adapter. If someone could measure a Protank for you, you'd know if it would look good.

Here it is with an IGO-L. The IGO-L measures 19.97mm so the match up is pretty good.

You can also shorten the center pin so it doesn't mess with the Vamo's gasket. Just go slow when you shorten pin and test the fit often! Here's a photo of a shortened pin compared to a normal one.

I agree that the Protank is airy! I haven't tried the Nova yet. I really want to try their metal tanks, but I am concerned that my juice will taste metallic! I love the Protank because it holds so much juice and the airy vape doesn't bother me all that much.

I have both, metal novas and protank,, the taste of metal came by the mouth tip being in chrome plated, the nova does not have that metal taste, in fact the flavor of thenovas are much better

I am at 8-10 watts depending on what juice I'm vaping. I also take long smooth draws...Vapor joes has specials for the pro tank pretty often...for less than $20 I'll probably just grab one soon and just give it a try.

I was often at 8 or 8.5 running vivas. With the protank, I'm at 6-6.5 with the same juice. Ymmv.

I've tried a metal drip tip in my novas, I agree, metal mouthpieces have a taste I'm not fond of regardless if viva or protank.

Worse, my lips seem to have some sort of weird reaction to metal tips. There's a gunky residue I need to clean off the mouthpiece with alcohol at least daily, often more. It's gross. Doesn't happen when I use a plastic or glass drip tip, nor does it happen to my wife vaping on a protank or other metal tip. If I vape anything with menthol crystals in it, much worse sticky gunk.
