I am not a modder, so please don't make the mistake of thinking that I know what I'm doing. I also don't have a camera. Sorry.

I hooked up a regular 9 volt battery to a few "dead" atomizers. One of them started sputtering and producing thick white fog, and the other - nothing. I assume the foggy one is suffering from too much gunk burnt on to the heating element, while the other one has a severed or broken heating element or connection in it.

Could this be a good final life-or-death trial for a failed atomizer? Could this be good way fry off all the gunk, like the "cleaning cycle" is supposed to do?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I think in most cases you will be more likely to burn out your atomizer by doing a burn with 9 volts....it's very hit and miss, you just seem to have been lucky, if you have managed to get one to work o'k.

Thanks for the coherent reply. I had 4 attys that were still heating, but they weren't producing. The 9v enhanced interrogation (if you will) method has restored them to nearly optimum performance. I was careful not to burn them at 9 volts for more than 30 seconds at a time.

The 9v battery I was using got hot after a while too. Beginners course in electronics - signing up. mod or quit? Seems to make sense.

I tried the 9 volt trick last night in an attempt to rejuvenate a two day old atty that went cold. Before the attempt, the atty had a resistance of 110 ohms. I then tried the 9v and got a very short fizzle and then no more. Still no work and the resistance is now 250 ohms. My next attempt will be hooking it up to my trickle charger for my scooter. I'll see what 12v can do. :)

Sorry I didn't mean it the way you took it....it's just that a few people have tried pretty much the same thing with a failing atty and only ended up with a dead atty, me included. A lot of things that work for some don't work for others so I guess everyone has to try it for themselves because it might also work for them as it has for you. I think the variations in peoples luck might be because of all the variations of things like juice used ...type of atty. etc.

Can anyone whoes done this to m401's report if this worked or not. I tried it on mine. I only used 5 volts. It fried it. I tried the same on dse901 and it continued to fizzle. The dse901 which was used longer than the m401 still lives (touched 5 volts for 5 times for roughly 10 seconds each time) but the m401 (only used a week) died with only about approximately 3 seconds on the 5 volts charger. Is the m401 not as sturdy as the dse 901 atty?
