Defective. They should replace with no problem. Please don't let this discourage you from the 901. It really is a powerhouse and is very popular. Sorry you had to deal with this!

it really is annoying getting a defective product and having to send it all the way across europe for a replacement.. what is even worse is that i bought 3 starter packs which cost quite an amount. (2 as christmas presents that i have given to family members in order for them to give as presents to other people). I sure hope they dont have the same trouble after all the amount of convincing i gave them to try out these things.

Today i am charging the other battery that came with the pack. With some luck it will work fine once i try it out and it will just be a battery problem. This time around the red light actually lit up on the charger opposed to the other battery just staying green but lighting up brighter. We will have to wait and see.

From what I have read here I don't think there is anything wrong with your battery or your atomizer - I think your 901 has been through a cleaning cycle and burnt off all the primer in the atomizer - which is why it is getting hot and not producing smoke.

I've had brand-new batteries kick into a cleaning cycle and if you don't remove the battery in time it will toast the atomizer

I wouldn't wait for your batteries to charge any more - re-prime your atomizer and give it another go now.
If you have juice, drip 3 or 4 drops on the atomizer coil - if you don't have juice remove the filling from a cart and squeeze its contents on to the coil and let the atomizer stand upright for a few minutes. Hook up a new cart that has plenty of juice in it and a battery and see what happens.

If you still have problems then email Smokster (e-cigs.co.uk), his after sales service is second to none -- you should have done this first rather than casting doubt on his business in public as you did in your first post

Did you prime the atomizer first? Any time you have a new atomizer you should prime it with a few drops of juice. I use 901b's exclusively and they produce tons of vapor. Try writing to the company that you bought them from.

yep i had done that..

i just tried the new fully charged(15 hour) battery and it is working like a charm. I believe the first battery must have been defective. Thanks for your help..

I do have a couple more questions though, perhaps you could help since you use 901s exclusively..

- How long do i have to charge a battery for and how long will it last me generally? Is it ok to recharge a battery even if it is not completely dead yet?
- The high nicotine cartridges taste that i got with the ecig taste really horrible. They generally leave me with a taste of nicotine in my mouth which i wouldnt usually get form an analogue cig. Is this normal? Can you recommend a type of juice that will mimic a cig as much as possible?(the marlboro sounded cool)

thanks again!

I emailed straight away and i still have not received a reply.. i think i have every right to be angry if i purchase GBP190 worth of products from somewhere and follow the manual and the online videos to the letter and yet the product doesnt work... wouldnt you? And i was not casting any doubt on his business, i was casting doubt on whether the specific e-cigarette i had in my hand is defective or not... there is a big difference. All i was asking for was some advice from people who know more than me, thank you.

well it seems the other battery must be defective.. either that or the manual does a very poor job of informing people who are new to these products about what to do to get them to work. It says just charge the battery for 2 hours max 3 and you are good to go. I tried that and the results were abysmal. Almost no vapor when you take a drag with the atomizer playing up and overheating to the point were it is painful to hold. I decided to charge the other battery for a whole 15 hours and now the results are very different. I am going to try and recharge the 1st battery for a full 15 hours too to see what results i get there... it has been charging for 3 hours now.

If your first battery was heating up the atomizer until it was too hot to hold then I doubt there was any problem with the amount of charge it was holding.

I suspect your initial problem was being hit with a cleaning cycle which boiled all the juice out of the atomizer - if this happens the atomizer needs to be re-primed and left to stand for a while so the fabric covering the coil can wick up some juice - just dripping liquid into the atomizer and smoking immediately will have no effect - or I should say it'll have the effect that you described - bugger all vapour.

Try you old battery now and see if it's working or not.

After the initial charge of at least 12 hours, I charge mine about 4. Don't pay attention to the red vs green light on the charger. I have found that it does not accurately tell you when it is fully charged. Usually I will plug them in at night and let them charge all night. Depending on how much you are using them, they should last you most of the day. Always have a backup because it will not last all day, and you will notice vapor decrease after about 4 hours.
The batteries in the units are Lithium Ion batteries which will not be affected if charged when not completely dead. They have no "memory effect." You should typically get about 300 charge/drain cycles per battery.
If you fully charge a battery and you are not getting that much vapor or you notice a significant decrease, you need to clean the atomizer. I put some water in a pot on the stove and put them in the boiling water for 10 minutes. NO MORE THAN 15 MINUTES. After you take them out, dry them well. Put some paper towel in the atomizer end and blow into the battery end to get some extra moisture out and air dry over night.
As far as you tasting the nicotine, you may be sucking too hard. You may be getting some of the liquid in your mouth. Try slow/long drags.
I have not found any tobacco flavored liquid that actually tastes like tobacco. Even the Marlboro. Try some other flavors. You may be surprised at how much you like them!
As far as liquid. Get off the carts that come with it. They are garbage. They taste bad and are made with crap from China. Get some blank carts and fill them with juice. You can also reuse the ones that come with it. I really like the Johnson Creek Juice. They offer 10 flavors and are good. If you get a starter pack they send you all 10 flavors in bottles to try. They last forever! They also offer NON PG juice. Instead of the PG they use food grade Vegetable Glycerin to make the smoke. Some people like a natural alternative. Hope this helps!
