I follow the 93.3 WMMR's Preston And Steve morning show by listening to their podcasts. Yesterday's (Monday, 7/29) show included a little banter about e-cigs. Casey, one of the producers (and an on-air member of the show) is the only one of the on-air members that smokes. He's quit a few times over the years and it sounds like he's slipped on his latest quit attempt; but he has a smok (?) e-cig now. There's a local doctor who is often on (in person and he calls in also) and he called in and said a few things about e-cigs; one of which had me  - they "super heat" the liquid. 'Don't inhale super heated smoke'.

So I sent the following email to the show:

"Casey,
I didn't want Dr. Mike's statements on electronic cigarettes discourage you from using them.

I was a 1.5 pack of Marlboro lights smoker for about 25 years. I tried the usual ways to quit smoking; gum, patches, Zyban, hypnosis, cold turkey. The best out of that list was cold turkey and that only 'worked' for 3 days before the wife told be [me] to either start smoking or get out ;-).

I've been using electronic cigarettes for the past 2.5 years and have not had a single tobacco cigarette in that time AND my wife continues to smoke.

When Dr. Mike said that electonic cigarettes "super heat" the liquid, I dang near crapped myself. A correctly working electronic cigarette will in no way "super heat" anything. There are no "long term" studies on electronic cigarettes; depending on your definition of "long term". Electronic cigarettes were just invented ~10 years ago. They only reached US markets about 6 years ago. I've had no adverse effects from daily use of an electronic cigarette for over 2.5 years; many, many others have been using them for 5 or 6 years with no adverse effects.

The "cig-a-likes" (electronic cigarettes that have the form factor of a tobacco cigarette) are what most people start out with. If these are what you are using and they work for you, fantastic; but there are better options out there. There are also US made "e-liquids" (the nicotine liquid that is used in electronic cigarettes); to take out the "made in China" arguments against e-cigs.

A couple of places on ... where? ... oh, The Internet, if you haven't been directed there before are:
The E-Cigarette Forum at http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/
and,
CASAA - Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association at CASAA - The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association

I'm pretty sure Casey isn't up on vaping tech/news/research. The e-cig he had in studio was sent to him from a local vendor "95 South Vapes" (I-95 is the major interstate highway in the area, so I'd imagine that is where the name comes from), never heard of them and couldn't find them on the web. Chances are they're just a stick battery reseller.

Anyone in the Philadelphia, PA area know of this vendor?

Super heat the "smoke"? (If this guy is calling vapor smoke, he clearly knows not whereof he speaks.) Sounds like that doctor who was interviewed weeks ago who said the ecig heated vapor to thousands of degrees, remember him? Anyway, I seem to remember reading that e-liquid is vaporized at 200 degrees F. Can't swear to this, though.

Thanks for setting the record straight, TomCatt. Good email!

Don't take your e-cigarette to Death Valley as they recorded 129 deg temps there this summer.

I would think at 129 in death valley, you'd have to poor out the e-liquid in a thin puddle to get it to vaporize.

It only vaporizes at that temp in ecigs due to the relatively thin layer in contact with the coil... I know when i have my coil positioned wrong in my Rebuildable Dripper... and have a puddle of juice... it won't fire... the liquid cools the coil.

I'm sure there must be a vendor or two in the Philly proper area. In the Burbs, TW has a B&M somewhere in the Willow Grove area, there's one somewhere around Norristown (I think Bridgeport) and the one I wrote about in Phoenixville. Phoenixville appeared to be mostly nicquid with a little hardware.

I was curious if anyone had heard specifically of the vendor called "95 South Vapes"; this is the vendor that Casey said sent him an ecig.

I've heard of it, but I've never been there. I heard its a tiny shop in the city. They sell mostly stick batteries from what I heard. The TW vendor near willow grove is vapor phoxxe in hatboro. The juice maker there makes all her flavorings. The shop in bridgeport is world's finest vape shop.

If you want to send him to the world of outrageous juice, send him to vaporphoxxe. If you want him to see cool mods, liberty vapor or world's finest vape shop would be better.

Elnroth, do you know where Liberty gets their vapor products. It almost sounded like they had someone mixing. I'm going to have to check out Hatboro aftyer your comments.

I know Ron, the guy who organizes easy coast vaper's club mixes a good portion of their juices. Pretty sure they use a company like flavor apprentice for their flavorings. They also carry mad murdok's juice.
