In the Wonderful World of vaping, I noticed that the author said that he never vaped on a plane but did in the airport etc. He also mentioned that some people do, in fact, use their e-cigs on planes.

I'm traveling next week, and I was wondering if the smoke detector in the bathrooms would detect the vapor from the e-cig? I know it's not smoke ... and the logical part of my brain says that the smoke detectors would not go off if I were to have a puff or two ... but since I'm very new to this ... I thought I'd better ask those with more experience.

Thanks

Mary

Vape with a cup of ice water or soda, exhale into it, helps, too.

No problem in us airports. Put juice in bottles in my one quart baggie for screening, had multiple batteries in my carry-on, vaped freely during waits at 5 airports. I was not trying to be showy, maximize vapor, but I was trundling through the terminals puffing away.

If you look confident, but not pushy, people start by giving you the benefit of the doubt. On planes I do go stealth, would absolutely put it away if asked or if the flight specifically said no vaping, but otherwise it looks like I am chewing on a riva "pen" and drinking water.

I just did the trek between Salt Lake City and Las Vegas with no problems at the airport. Make sure to put your liquid and any carts/cartos/etc which have liquid in them in your little baggie. The rest just put in the bin where you would put your laptop and other electronic stuff. I didn't have a second look at any of my stuff. I did take a few stealth vapes on the plane coming home but only had my wife next to me with only a 25% occupancy on the jet.

Some have vaped in the bathrooms without problems but note that all airlines recognize e-cigarettes in the smoking policy and ban them from use. Like lighters and analogs, you can bring em but technically cannot use them. I will be on a 14 hour flight starting Sunday night and I will be bringing my 510 and using it in stealth mode praying I don't end up in a Peruvian jail being served lunch by Consuela the chamber maid :)

At the beginning of the year I flew from Harrisburg, PA to Miami, Florida and had no issues with security in the airports. Just a few curious questions. Though the TSA did not like my PureSmoker PT or my bottles of juices in checked luggage. I flew AirTran an vaped in the bathroom since a steward caught me not so stealthily vaping in my seat. The safety book on AirTran says no electronic cigs.

I flew on Frontier a couple of weeks ago and they tried to pass it off as a FAA banned device. I wasn't a Vapor at the time, but noted it in their list. I would check with the airline first, or stealth vape. I personally use Commit Lozenges on flights.

If it is FAA banned what difference does the airline make?

Don't know if it is or isn't by the way....

Continental says no e-cigs in their list of banned devices. I did the stealth vape into a hot cup/empty cup of coffee. Bathroom works too, but don't blow directly into the smoke detector. A member here had a story about setting it off that way.

Just don't freak anyone out that might think you are actually smoking and you should be fine. Keep your e-juice under the liquid limits and put it with shampoo, etc.

What afrazier5 said.

I've flown several times and never had a problem, and have stealth-vaped on the plane. Once when I was going through security on my way to Manila, I had a bunch of batteries, cartos, etc. in my carry on. The TSA guy stopped my bag in the machine for a few seconds to look at it, and then said, "Sir, are you trying to quit smoking?" I replied, "YES I AM!" - he smiled and waved it through. Don't blow vapor directly into the smoke detector, as it can go off - someone posted about that quite some time ago in the Travel and E-Cigs section. Some good info there:

People have flown all over the world with all kinds of vaping devices, and I don't know if there has ever been a single problem yet.
But if you have to vape in your seat on the plane, definitely stealth vape.

As for the smoke detector in the bathroom, yes, these can set them off if the vapor is too dense.
I personally would feel comfortable that simply exhaling towards the floor would be enough to prevent that.
