To Those Who are about to vote on e-cigarette regulation,

I am a 51 year old Florida resident who smoked for over 36 years of my life and tried every method to quit without success many times, until a friend gifted me with a personal vaporizor. Mine does not look at all like a cigarette. Within 3 days of vapeing I was no longer smoking cigarettes. I am proud to say it has been over 3 months now for me. I don't know if it would have been possible for me to switch if not for the wonderful flavors available to me (my favorites include strawberry shortcake, sweet tea and blackberry cobbler with whipped cream, that you can't get from tobacco)

I DO support banning e-cigarette sales to minors, I do not want ANY minor to have easy access to cigarettes or E-juice containing nicotine.

However, I don't think that sweet flavors necessarily indicate that e-cigarette products are aimed at marketing to children. Furthermore, I believe that ADULTS have a right to prefer flavors like chocolate, cherry and Pina Colada. - We have many candy flavored alcoholic beverages available because ADULTS prefer them. People do not wake up at 21 and only like liver and broccoli.

Adults should not be denied the option to vape, just because a child might want to. I also disagree with banning e-cigarette use where smoking is banned.

The positive benefits that I have noticed by switching from smoking tobacco to vapeing include:

1. I no longer wake up hacking and coughing.
2.I no longer smell like an ashtray.
3. I can play with my grand children much longer,
4. My recent medical tests show my blood pressure and lipid are greatly decreased (my Dr, is very pleased)
5. My house and car now smell much better
6. Food tastes SOOO much better
7. Nobody has to smell second hand smoke caused by me
8. I am loosing weight because NOW I CAN exercise
9. No more burns in my clothes or car from hot ashes
10. My breath no longer reeks and my teeth are getting whiter
11. I am no longer ingesting over 4000 chemicals (596 of which are known carcinogens) that smoking exposed me to
12. I have no doubt that switch has saved me many productive happy days to come.
13. I am saving money every day
14. No dirty ashtrays full of cigarette butts and ashes to deal with.

This list could go on and on.

The newer studies done by Dr. Siegel of Boston University, Dr. Eissenberg of Virginia Commonwealth, Dr Maciej L Goniewicz of the Roswell Park Cancer Institute,Dr. Laugesen of Health New Zealand, Dr. Igor Burstyn of Drexel University, and by the fact that the FDA testing, in spite of its press statement, have failed to find harmful levels of carcinogens or toxic levels of any chemical in the vapor from e-cigarettes.

Smoking bans were enacted to protect the public from second hand smoke....vapeing is not smoke. It does not stink. Nothing lingers and contains NOTHING that can be harmful to others, For example, a study by the Roswell Park Center that was funded in part by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) found that the levels of chemicals and toxic items in the vapor produced by 12 different e-cigarettes were 9 to 450 times less than were in cigarette smoke. The trace levels of chemicals present were about comparable to what is found in a FDA-approved nicotine inhaler.

By banning personal vaporizer use except where smoking is allowed, is a disservice to all the smokers that could be interested in a great deal of risk reduction that vaping allows. I have been approached many times while vapeing in public and always take the time to explain what it is and how it has helped me quit smoking. I am proud to say that 6 family members, 9 friends and a number of others have made the switch after having explained the benefits.

I received the following reply today
Dear Ms. XXXXXX:

Thank you for your email in regards to electronic cigarettes. I know of two (2) friends who started using the electronic cigarettes and are no longer using regular cigarettes. They kicked the cigarette habit in about 90 days.

The ban on electronic cigarettes will more than likely be passed by the Town Council tonight. I am basing this on the vote of the first public hearing.

Again, thank you for your comments.

Sincerely,

Steve Howard

Though not a response you wanted, at least it was not a canned response. The only way to win these local fights is to show up in droves and testify. I know not all folks are willing or able to do that, though, It seems like the best way to get favorable results. Additionally, the more e-mails the better.....thanks for sharing with us, and thanks for fighting!

a new update...they did not pass the ban tonight. Here is the follow up email I received....

Dear Ms. XXXXXX

Thank you for your email in regards to electronic cigarettes. The Town Council tonight agreed to postpone any action on the Second Reading until next meeting so more information can be obtained on five (5) items the Town Council had questions.

Next meeting will be on Tuesday, October 15, 2013.

Sincerely,

Steve Howard

I am going to attempt to make the next meeting. I live in the Tampa Bay area but do have family in Orange Park, as long as I can make the 3 hour drive I will be there.:vapor:
