Hi,

Hate to be a pest.....

Did you quit analogs cold turkey when you started e-smoking? Did you e-cig and analog at the same time?

I started e-smoking this morning and find I really want a cigarette too. I wasn't expecting that....

I don't want to do to much by doing both...

Any suggestions or hints?

ty in advance!

Neither here nor there
I used my PV occasionally for the first few weeks I had it, while continuing analogs. When I ran out of the analogs, I switched solely to my PV. That lasted about 4 days, until I caved and started making my own cigs with loose tobacco, tubes and a mini injector. I only vaped in the car, since the ones I made tended to fall apart and drop the cherries at random times. YIKES! Anyway, I did both for a few more months, and quit on 9-9-09. So far, so good. I think it is pretty common for people to go back and forth for awhile at the beginning.

Quit the day it arrived - haven't smoked since I first hit my 510. The first day I craved a cig maybe 3 times and the second day once maybe. After that I would think about them from time to time but it wasn't a craving any more. I have no interest in ever smoking or even trying them again.

The thing with nicotine/cigs is that cravings are very short lived lasting maybe 10-15 seconds but they are real bad. Just got to get through them.

A lot of poeple also smoke at the same time and most of them report cutting way down without even trying... Kind of like a gradual transition.
Either way should work and I doubt you will have problems getting totally off cigs eventually. These things really work.

I quite the same day. I actually had cravings also, but once I put in the 24MG nic (was smoking the prefilled carts) I never looked back. I still get cravings after I eat for an analog, but I just hit my 510 and it goes away. It's really just training your mind to break the ritual of opening a pack, and lighting up. Once your mind realizes that it gets the same fix from your e-cig, you'll be just fine.

Hi,

...
Any suggestions or hints?

ty in advance!

edited to add: woo hoo, I can start a thread now!! woo hoo! ;)

1) Decent e-cig: 510, janty stick, mod, etc. Most folks break it off after using a 510

2) sufficient nicotine MG liquid. Most use 24. I didn't hit it til I got 36mg... NO cravings after that. I'll worry about cutting nic mg later....

3) Don't be hard on yourself. If you're dying for an analog, hit one... in a few weeks, with the above recipe... you'll probably abandon 'em wondering "what was I thinking?!?". Especially after you've been off analogs for 4 or 5 days, then hit one again... your mouth gets that coating of tar and you keep licking the inside of your mouth for a while thinking.. "ew.. how long before this goes away" :D

One step at a time, one day at a time... you'll be free soon.

Thank y'all so much!!

I started e-cigs this morning. And have found myself really craving an analog. (I am vaping at 18mg nic) so I was worried it wasn't working for me!

Soooo relieved to hear I am normal.

I only have 1/2 pack of analogs left. I think I am doing a mental head job on myself, about that. I was going to get up this morning and go buy another carton. But I think I'll just get another pack. Having 1 & 1/2 packs should be enough of a "backup, just in case", to ease the panic.

I sooooo want this to work! Not only will it save uber money, but it has GOT TO BE healthier than analogs!

Thanks again, for the info and the fast responses!

I may need to go up in MG liquid, I was a pretty heavy smoker. 1 1/2 - 2 pack a day habit.....

I can't wait to see the savings!!

When I got my 901 and JOYE 510, I never looked back. Have been off the analogs about 12 days. But....for a while you'll find yourself starting to reach for the ashtray or lighter, but it's just a 'habit' response and you'll sort of laught at yourself when it happens. That action goes away after the first couple of times you catch yourself doing it.

Let yourself run out of analogs. I think it was very easy for me to give them up on the spot because of how much analogs had already damaged me. If you have no ill effects to analogs yet, it may take a little longer. Just go with the flow, you'll eventually get into this good habit and enjoy all that goes with it, like making your own flavor recipes, finding the perfect e-cig, etc. Hang in there, it'll happen sooner or later....you're doing great!

... a 36 year 2 pack a day smoker I gradually reduced my use of cigarettes and relied on the e-cig more and more. But....I never could get past the need to buy conventional cigarettes and smoke a few daily...until I found a reliable e-cig with back ups and loads of supplies. It has been an expensive endeavor to equip myself and 3 days ago I decided the time had come to make a stand. I ran out of ciggies and refused to buy more to give the PV a real chance. A few cravings...easily managed. Good luck!:D:cool::lol:

Oops! I forgot to add that some of the eliquid was too strong for me for all day vaping such as 24 mg so I use a 16-18 mg for all day and the higher strength for when my cravings are more predominent.

I think the best thing to do is to quit analogs cold turkey.
The main motivators are 1) your health, 2) saving money, 3) vaping is in, smoking is out.
Everytime you crave a analog, repeat to yourself all the health benefits resulting from quitting smoking as you vape.
My story is a little different. I have been smoking for 25 years, with a 2-year break in 1997-99. Also, I discovered a brand of special cigarette called Eclipse back in 2003. That is what I have been smoking since then, with camel ultra lights in between when eclipse became harder to find in 05. Eclipse basically heats tobacco instead of burning it. Eclipse claimed that it is a safer way to smoke, and I felt that it was (less coughing, better sense of smell, etc...). However, I am sure there are still tons of carcinogens.
I smoked more eclipse than regular cigarettes on a daily basis, and a pack was $5.50 vs $4.40 for camels.
I discovered e-cigarettes last august, and researched them on the web to get my hands on the best product and really make the switch.
I received my first e-cig early september: The Red Dragon. I found it really good, a great alternative to analogs, and I have not smoked ever since (2 weeks now). I am tons happier, my car does not stink anymore, I have more energy, and I save money.
I am going to exercise again. Take long walks with the dog, run, bike, etc...
I like the red dragon for the combination of vapor and closer to smoking the real thing, but I found it hard to draw.
I have experimented with bloogs for a few days. I did not like them at all: no vapor and the cartomizers were lasting the equivalent of 5 cigarettes before burning.
I needed more batteries and chargers so my next stop was with Vapure. Great product, easier to draw on, cartomizers are refillable even though I do not know how many times.
Vapure is THE 2-piece E-cig for me until I discover something else. I get 7 to 10 cigarettes worth of battery life, and 10 to 15 cigarettes between cartomizer refills. Vapure and Red Dragon seem to be the same except maybe the battery piece.
Anyhow, I recommend at least 2 batteries to start with.
Good luck!

I got my e -cigs on Monday afternoon and I have not had the desire to smoke an analog since then.
It actually now makes me sick with the thought of what I had been actually doing with all of the chemicals.
My heart rate has really slowed down and I feel better in my lungs. The health benefits certainly outweigh smoking analogs.

Best of luck.

Everyone is different. Cold turkey will work for some and it will make others miserable. It is up to you on which way you are able to quit smoking. Some people are very lucky and are able to put them down with the first vape. Others may take a while longer. I'm one of the ones it took a little longer. I was able to get down to 3 cigs a day almost immediately but still had to have those 3. Glad to say I don't need those 3 anymore. You do what makes you feel the best and what makes the transition the easiest for you. Don't decide on any certain way just because it worked for someone else.

It took me about 4 days. The first day it seemed like the ecig was not for me. I had an N4081 that just didn't seem enough like a cigarette. The second day, an M401 arrived and I like it better - cut down to about half a pack of cigs froma pack a day. The third day was about the same, but on the fourth day I cut down to only 2 and none after that.

What really did it for me was the drive to work in the morning. I didn't think it was possible to start the day without those first 3 cigarettes. Once I made up my mind to try using the e-cig only on the way to work (and actualy made it!), there seemed to be no reason to go back to analogs.

My suggestion is to figure out the situation that you feel most requires you to smoke and attack that situation with an e-cig. If you can make it through that, it gives you the positive reinforcement you need to get off of analogs completely.

I guess the 510 was right for me. 40 plus years of puffing 2 packs a day and I hardly had any craving after I got the ecig. The first morning I had a craving but if i make sure I have a full cart and good vapor it isnt a problem. It's been 8 days now. It may have helped that I have been smoking MYO for a couple of years (no added chemicals and stuff, just pure tobacco). Good luck quiting. I have no doubt you can do it with ecigs.

I COULD have stopped the analogs as soon as ecigs arrived and did for 3 days.

But I was a naive newb. LOL

I had no idea how long the 5 cartridges and free 3 ml sample of juice would last. I thought until my next order at least. Nope about a day and a half. Back on analogs.

Got a large JC juice order in and the atty on my 901 goes out. Back on analogs.

Picked up a 4081 at the mall. One atty don't work and one of the two batteries go out in about a week. Back on analogs.

The moral of this story: stock up and don't rely on a single part to operate. Have some back ups on hand and order about 3 times the amount of juice you think you'll need.

If I can get off the dirty cancer sticks that have enslaved me for 40 + years, anyone can.

Next order I'm off them.... (I hope) lol
