So my wood didn't darken (well, this one's poly, but the oiled coco still looks super too), but my BUTTON is starting to tarnish right quick! I may just leave it and see what happens - but IF I want to keep it all nice and shiny brass, what's the best thing to do?

I'm guessing anything I use to polish brass, you have to be real careful to keep OFF the wood, right?

I use MAS Metal Polish (nevermind the price. You can buy single tubes for about $5) with a Microfiber cloth on my Brass RM2 and Brass Button Cover. Maas is simple to use, and doesn't have the strong chemical smell that other cleaners have.

For my Brass Buton Cover only, I will clean it with soap and water AFTER using Maas. After drying, I'll roll a piece of paper and stick it in the hole (similar to rolling SS Mesh) to use as a holder. Hold it up, and add a layer of Rustoleum Clear Coat to it and let it dry. That'll keep it looking good and will keep it from tarnishing. May have to repeat procedure about 6 months later. Just use Paint Thinner to remove the old clear coat, and do above procedure again. It works for me. :thumb:

:2c: I use Cape Cod Polishing cloths to remove natural patina off metals. Actually bought them for my PAPS Lux Alu-Bronze tube mods because there is zero chance they'll scratch them, but they work very well on my naval brass gear as well. Doubt they would hurt poly coated wood, I wouldn't take the chance with oiled wood. It's not hard to pull the button off to clean, put it back on. Anyway, what I'd use on my brass buttons IF it remove any patina. Since the two of my new woods that are still wearing the brass buttons also have Naval Brass Nuppin' V2's and Syner DT's on them I'll probably just let them all patina together.
