Yeah, it's like e-books and MP3s. Personally I neer read paper books or listen to CDs, tapes or records anymore. The advantages of the digital media far outweigh my affection for the old familiar form factors. But for others, they just will never enjoy reading THE SAME BOOK without the tactile sensation of holding the book, turning the pages, smelling the paper, etc.

"It is not logical. But it is often true."

Off topic, but gotta answer. I'm absolutely drooling for an e-reader using the newish e-ink technology. Gotta be open source though and at present the offerings from amazon, sony and iRex are all proprietary. I have to have at least 20 books on holiday and I gave up carrying paper years ago - these days my holiday reading travels by laptop but it's hard on the eyes.

Offtopic! I find it really hard to read from a laptop with the glare and portability issues, I read a about a sony ( i think) e-reader that was supposed to replicate paper for vision and be highly portable was thinking of buying one from ebay.com as they are sold im USA and not here at present, forgot about it till now, but if I recall the where semi medium specific which is a downer... I going well of topic now lol

Very true, but books I disagree, I have read about one technology product that can maybe replace a real book, think its a sony something, but bar that nothing compares to the portability and readability of a actual book...
I carry around a couple dozen books at a time, and I can read 'em in absolute darkness or bright day. Well, shaded bright daylight, anyways. :D

I have the same problem with dedicated e-book readers as with the iPod. My PocketPC already does that, and more. Your dedicated device does it better, but I like only carrying one device around. I am willing to sacrifice a bit on performance for that convenience, so long as performance is good enough for the job. MS Reader ain't the best, but I can read the book, and that's good enough. Same with WMP, I can hear the music, that's good enough; I don't need to flip through album covers or have a convenient circular controller. And this way I only fill one pocket.

ANd before anyone mentions it, no I am not interested in the iPhone. No e-book reader, no voice notes, and no hardware buttons. I'd hate having to use the touchscreeen for everything.
