Been vaping about 1.5 years now, mostly my own concoction of Chinese juices. I generally mix 3-5 juices to get what I want, then stick with just a few blends to get me through. I spent a few months experimenting with Lorann flavors (in existing flavored juice) and gave up, but kept a few useful flavors way in the back of the cupboard.

It looked like the world of custom juice was advancing, as you would expect, so starting a month ago or so I tried a few.

I'm sticking with Don and here's some of why.

Base stock - very nice ... clean, pure, consistent flavor to flavor.

Mixology (?) - Even with the consistent base stock, the flavors all have their own personality. The blend is thorough and creates a new entity, not just flavor on top of base. To beat a dead cliche, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

Rich is rich and light is light - Huh? What I mean is that if, say, a person tried Virginia and 555, they might think Don's juice is on the light side. If someone tried Caramel Cappuccino and Espresso, they might think it on the rich side. Truth is, he does what's necessary to get the desired end result, but somehow maintaining a family resemblance amongst all.

A personal example of the base stock goodness. I thought the Virginia too light for my tastes (I don't much care for salmon, but will devour a good trout, so personal taste is personal taste) and was going to use it as a mixer. Then I remembered the Lorann cranberry I had stashed away. I like the cranberry as a light, clean fruit/sweet flavor. I just kissed some Virginia with it and it was wonderful. I'll be working up a home mix based on this.

Point is, it took the flavor so well, creating something new and useful. As to the BWB flavors, my personal favs so far are Applewood Tobacco, Cherry Tobacco, Espresso and Malty Toffee. I've got some RY4 on order. If I had to pick one, I'd probably go with Cherry Tobacco, but luckily I don't have to lol.

Oh, I vape BE112 attys exclusively, @5V, and although I usually use cartridges (Kristen's PTB technique) I've been dripping Don's. I have 5 devices so it's easy to keep several loaded up.

Great review...
I have tried to put it like that before, but you have accomplished that so eloquently...

Cool.
Thanks - I'm pretty sure it was your comments that got me to take a look at Don's stuff.
Great review of a superb product. I love Backwoods Brew too. You brought a different perspective for me because you play around and mix your own juices.

Thank You,
Paula
Yeah, I'm already mixing and matching lol. Cut the Cherry Tobacco with some 555 to tone down the cherry, mixed some Espresso and Caramel Cappuccino to cut the sweetness of the Espresso a bit.

It's frustrating because I want just a few goto flavors, but several of Backwoods' are so appealing I don't know what to do.

I may be cheating using a Reo, but I just broke out a new 801 atty this afternoon after discovering my first three bottles arrived from BWB: Applewood, Maple, and Menthol(all tobacco). Someone in another review of these made the comment that Don had developed the closest thing to an analog "smoke" he had come across since vaping eliquid. I can't perfectly describe it, of course, but it has that same feeling of "dryness" but with subtle flavor. You're not hit with overwhelming flavor, but it's like a suggestion. It's a less is more thing, I guess.
I read somewhere else that attys have a "break-in" period, and this is my second ever, so maybe it'll just get better from here, but I found my supplier for sure!
Best I have had by a country mile, and since I live out in the country, I oughtta know!

fjames, you really put it out there in a way that describes what BWB fans feel and haven't been able state in such understandable terms. Don has captured the formula for making each one of his blends distinctly his own, yet each and every flavor does have its own personality. I took a major step a couple of weeks ago and bagged up all of my non-BWB liquids and gave them away. I'm not dissing the ones I had because I truly enjoyed them for a season and they brought me out of the hell hole of smoking into the beauty of vaping, but after experiencing the clean crisp flavors Don mixes....they lost their glory. I received a fresh supply of BWB flavors today and could hardly wait to sit back and savor the plumes of my beloved Malty Toffee. I made the mistake of running out and I was close to going into withdrawals. Before I even opened ECF to catch up, I was thinking....you know, I didn't think it possible, but his flavors are getting better! How can that be??? This means that Don is constantly monitoring and adjusting his formulas to assure the highest quality and flavor is achieved in each and every bottle that leaves his hands.

BWB is so good, I wish I could place a bottle of it in the hands of every vaper I know...

I'd like to teach the world to vape,
In perfect harmony.
I'd like to buy the world a brew (Backwoods)
To keep them company. :2cool:

I was going to update this thread, then saw several new replies, so take note - this stuff "relaxes" (I like that term better than "aging" that many use) to a very noticeable degree. The dryness mellows considerably into a warm, smooth, snugly kind of thing. I'm not sure if it needs exposure to oxygen for this - I'll check an unopened bottle to see (I've seen it recommended to "age" custom juices with the top off.)

I think this is why I went away from the Cherry Tob - it has the strongest flavor of the "medium" flavors to me, and it was a bit too much - as the juice relaxed, the Cherry flavor spread. As someone noted above though, Malty is a good mixer, and 2/3 Cherry Tob + 1/3 Malty is making me happy. As others have noted, it's a real cherry flavor, like pie cherries, not the candy sweet cherry.

The most amazing thing to me personally is that I can vape several of them straight, no mixing. This is literally a first for me.

I guess I should say, on the BE112, that I picked up a small number of their LR atties and am using them at 4V. I should say "it" because I'm still on my first one. It's working just fine so far ('bout 2 weeks.)
